A local band contacted me about a week ago asking if I could record one of their live shows with another band thats playing with them. Anywho, I plan on bringing my full desktop computer (seeing as I dont have another option) and hide it off stage with my mixer and interfaces. The opening band has 2 vocalists, 2 guitarists, a bassist, and a drummer. For them I plan on using 1 mic on each singer, then sending them through the group out into input 1 of my delta 44. I plan on sending each guitar to a channel, 2 and 3, in my 44, and then lastly bass into channel 4. Would a kick mic, snare mic, and stereo OHs be enough for the drums? I think Im going to do a stereo submix of the drums and then send it to my audiophile.

As of now, I have one more input left on my mixer, yet not more inputs on my interfaces. Should I go for a floor tom mic or a "crowd" mic?

The second band has 2 vocalists, a bassist, 1 guitarist, and a drummer. Im thinking having the same set up with either 2 tom mics or 2 "crowd" mics. What do you think?

Thanks a lot guys.
Josh

If you get to do a sound-check before, I bet you'll find a place to put that extra mic real quick.

Seems you never know what's going to sound good till you get there. It's also good to have a backup mic sitting there waiting to be put into service.

I'd skip the crowd mic, as the crowd will get into the recording all on their own.

Sweet man. Good luck with it. Live recordings are always more fun than studio recordings, especially when things go wrong : )

Agree with PJK here.

Thanks for the replies guys. Pjk, we should have time for a sound check so Ill bring my stash of mics and see what sounds good where. I guess ill skip out on the crowd mics.

This is gonna be interesting, I've only heard the band once live so well see how this goes. Some thing like my computer freezing would be considered as something going wrong :)

Bring a UPS for your computer if you can, bars (and other small venues) may not have great power, and your PC may be a little unforgiving, especially if it's tracking.

hey, that's really cool! As said above, a UPS would really be the forgiving utility...
