Sonar Help Running Out Of CPU?

I had a demo of Sonar 4 for the last few days,i've got to say that the audio quality is like night and day compared to Sonar 2.2, i was just about to give up!
The snag is with Sonar 4 i'm running 95% cpu on the meter and we're getting crackles and pops, when i have around 13 audio tracks with effects, I'm using a Pentium4 2gig cpu, do i need more processing power? I.m planning to upgrade to Sonar 5 but i think i must sort the cpu thing out first. Any ideas bigger cpu, dual cpu?
Onto Sonar 5, i can get the basic 2.2 up to 5 upgrade quite reasonable then there's a big jump in price to the 5 producer version. I'm not doing any surround sound and don't use any inbuilt synths, is there any extras in 5 producer worth paying the extra for?

Increase the latency of your sound card while mixing.

Also start to freeze, or mixdown individual tracks with lots of plug ins.

Sometimes demo editions run at a higher CPU usage, just allowing you to get a feel for it . Though, I'm not sure if Cakewalk embraces that practice .

As far as the extras go in Sonar 5 PE, I would they are worth it . I haven't done any 5.1 mixing yet either, but the plugins that come with the PE are very nice, imho .

You can check out some of the video of it's features here :

Vikki, yes the issue of the CPU load has been greatly reduced in Sonar 5. As well, the demo will run a higher CPU load as it is not optimized completely. I was very impressed when I installed it. I would say that there are many tiools in Sonar 5 PE that would benifit you. The 64 bit dual precision audio engine is what really got it for me though. I guess in all honesty I would surely go have a look at the differance at the site to see if it would be worth it for you.

But as Hue stated, for sure go have a look and see for yourself which would work best for you.

Many thanks for the information. As soon as the shops open after New Year i'll upgrade to 5 or 5 producer. Sadly looks as if i may have to upgrade my computer, i was looking at replacing the P4 cpu with a larger one, but it turns out the P4 chip for my board is no longer made. I think i made a bad choice when i purchased the Asus P4t533? mother board, it also has the Rimbus memory(expensive).
Seasons greetings to everyone.

Track freezing can help a lot.

My music computer does not have a DVD drive. I think I read somewhere that Sonar 5 is supplied on DVD, does it also save/write files to DVD or to CD - i.e. do I need to purchase a DVD re-writer drive or just a DVD player. I currently have CD-drives one of which is a re-writer!!
Many thanks

Yeah, it's on a DVD . You'll need a player-drive to install it .

If your music computer does not have a DVD drive on it, your music computer won't be able to install anything pretty soon. Almost every app I get for review from many manufacturers are coming on DVD now...come on, ya HAD to know this day was comin...

Cakewalk can provide the application on CD as well. However it is, as dB put it in your best interest to probably invest in the DVD drive. Even the DVD burner's are now getting to be very reasonably priced. I have replaced almost all my burners with DVD burners now.
