This is a tune a buddy and me have been working on. We recorded it at a friends studio then we did all of the mixing on our equipment. This tune is in the reggae/dub style. I am most concerned about the quality of the mix. I think the mix could be a little "brighter" but I could use some honest critisim. Thanks guys!

Cheers!

Al

Very cool, Al.
I especially love the "Pink Panther" bit.
Bass and drums sound very tight, and the keys are stellar.
I'm not sure that "brighter" is what you're looking for (unless it's the guitar..I'd like it a little brighter). Maybe a little more stereo separation - a slightly "wider" mix?
As it stands it's great.

For the most part the mix sounds pretty stellar to me. I am however hearing some buzz that occur's only when the bass guitar hits certain notes, and it appears as though it is mushing with the kick that happens a the ame time. A good section to really hear it is starting around 1:06 during a section with just the bass and drum part going. This occurs even playing it at a very low volume.

I would suggest a little EQ work on either the kick or bass to try and sort that out. I could hear it even during the mix but it is a little less apparent.

Otherwise I liked the tune for sure, and the rest of the mix sounded great. I as well liked the key's, they get it going for me all the time.

Thanks for the great feedback guys. I'm going to try to "widen" the track a bit, see if that helps. Do you think when it's mastered it'll sound wider and brighter??

Noize, I can't hear the buzz you're talking about. I listened and listened and I don't hear anything. I'll have to have my bandmate have a listen.

I'm glad you guys dug the tune and the keys. I used Native Insturment's B4 and a Melodica.

Thanks again!

it makes my butt wiggle- very well mixed. should be used in a car comercial, or in the background when the guy says "yea beer" red stripe i think.
i too am buzz free, but noize hears everything so just fix it- whatever it is.
I really enjoyed and heard no problems though
good stuff

Very tasty! Fills in everything so nice. I'm listening to it on headphones, and it's like a smorgasboard for the ears, lots of stuff going on here and there. Quite nice. Neat addition of other instruments too. Nice pan work as well.

I can't hear the buzz either, not that I'm ear-qualified or experienced to be trusted, but I'm not hearing it.

I am hearing a little sound around :25 that may be construed as buzz though, if it's in with the bass. I'm not sure what the sound is, but it's kinda raspy, and breathy.

ALso, there's a click at 2:04. I heard in on winamp, and media player, multiple times at the same spot.

Nice work.

Must have been the mp3 when I was listening. I will give it another go and see if I hear it again.

OK, I wont call it a buzz. It is more of a very low harmonic that is crossing when the kick and a certain couple of bass notes hit together.

It gives a very muddy flap sound. I downloaded the mp3 again just to be sure I wasnt hearing thing's. It's not a very audible thing either. You need to be listening for it. You have another prominent sound in the low end there as well. Kinda of a woofing sound, like a very low chord be smacked on the B3 or something, it is very rythmic and stands out in the quiet part's. I think when that sound, the kick and those certain low bass notes hit at the same time it is giving that flap sound.

But for sure Albert it is a very low quick sound. Like I said, you really have to listen for it.

Do you have Wavelab or Soundforge. I could drop a couple marker's on a section of the wav file and put it up for you to download so you could pinpoint what I am talking about.

Like I said though it is very subtle, so in the end it might not even be noticed.

Hmm... now that I have more of an idea what I'm looking for maybe I can pin point it. I don't have Wavelab or Soundforge, Noize, thanks for the offer though.

Thanks for all of your critisim guys! I've only done a few smaller mixes previous to this so I just want to be sure I'm on the right track. This is the first track of a full album I'm working on, probably one of the most difficult to mix too. So, hearing positive feedback from you all really boosts my sprits. I'll definitly post the final, mastered tune when I'm done.

Thanks again guys, I really appreciate all of your help!

Cheers!

Al
