I want to build a pedal board for my friend, and i was wondering how i would go about this? He only has a about 5 effects but i want him to have space for one of those multi outlets for his adapters and power, space for future effects, and maybe a chacne to one day mount it in a standard amp head rack. im thinking im going to use a board of wood and just cover it in some kind of felt or cloth that velcro straps will attach to and then cover the edges with window edge shielding. Anything im getting wrong? I need help on the dimensions, what is the standard width and length for rack mountable pedal boards? And how high is a standard one? Any materials recommended?

Thanx

Standard rack width is 19", and a single rack space height is 1 7/8". The actual width between the rails of the rack is approximately 17 3/4" I believe. I would measure one to be sure though.

There is a type of felt as you say that will actually hold the hook part of the velcro. That is how I built one year's ago for myself. Simply cover the bgoard as you stated with the material, and then put a couple strips of the hook part of the velcro on the effect and your set. You can move them around till he find's the right places for them. And as you said, move them when you need to add more.
