1. is it possible to zip a zip file or rar a rar file? or rar a zip, or vice versa?
2. if so, just out of curiosity, hows that shiz work?
i want to move unfinished songs off my hard drive and onto cd-rom if possible, dvd if i must, though that will be very inconvenient, as my music comp doesnt have a dvd drive, so i dont know how, yet, i would ever reinstate those files.
but if i could compress them a few times maybe i could shrink em enough...i dunno. this prolly isnt possible. i'm just running out of room and i find all the unfinished songs a total, complete distraction. feel the need to start from a clean slat.e

Nov 27, 2005 05:03 pm yeah, you can zip a zip and such, but you will gain no additional space savings from doing so.
Nov 27, 2005 05:05 pm well then.

Nov 27, 2005 05:38 pm forty, some of the dvd drives are getting pretty cheap now. I know I just picked up a dvd burner for the boyz box and it was only about $70.00 or so. Dual layer and the whole bit.
Nov 27, 2005 09:31 pm yeah im just gonna burn this stuff to dvd and wait for a day down the line when i can actually unpack them with my own burner/reader on the music comp. it'll do. i dont intend to revisit about 80 or so half-worked out riffs and snippets for a long time here. some are so undeveloped that theyre just taking up space. the idea of starting with a clean slate and not writing as much crap this time around is exciting. all the titles i have in there confuse me. i dont know what song 'pepperoni' is, or 'thanksgiving' without actually opening them and listening.

Nov 27, 2005 11:33 pm I know the feeling. I have about 30 1 gig Sparq cartridge's from the old days. Kinda like the Jazz drive's but they went bankrupt. I finally got driver's that will work in XP so I may start transfering old project's, some finished and some not to the new HD's and then to CD or DVD. I think some of the old project's used old analog synth's I dont even own anymore. I have the same problem with title's as well, dont rmember what half of them might be. Gonna have to listen to em all I guess.
Nov 27, 2005 11:53 pm right. (disclaimer: i just temporarily name everything im working on based on flavors or smells or holidays. my actual titles should turn out a little bit better than those, i would hope.)

Nov 28, 2005 06:14 pm LOL, I'm in the same boat kinda. Mine is swayed by mood, food or maybe a certain sound or instrument name at the moment of recording. Makes for a confusing time year's later trying to remember title's like Angry Butterscotch Juno Buzz thing.
Nov 28, 2005 07:32 pm lol
heres some bad temp titles i currently have, from before the flavor scheme became standard:
zombie_jumpnotjump
stompy riff no drums
3maj4minimin
kevin walked in
dinnerparty
frances (hurricane)
devilsriversonoratexas (rediscovered in tape player on I-10 west in a town called devils river)
there's worse. henceforth, with the new very specific flavor/smell scheme, at least i can remember if i like the taste or smell of a song. thats something.

Nov 28, 2005 11:29 pm Those are good. I have actually been trying to stick with naming them as to what I was doing when insperation struck.
5th Dimension, it was the 5th tune started while reviewing Project 5 and using the Dimension synth.
