I am unable to find 128MB card with either AGP or PCI-e under $100. If you know of any, please tell me.

One more thing, is PCI-e better than AGP ?

jeez, I just saw in the BestBuy ad today there is a 256MB AGP card, geForce 6600 I believe for $99. 128 MB cards are easy as hell to find...I don't think I've ever paid over $100 for a video card...PNY makes good cards on the geForce chipset, look into those.

AGP is better than PCI-anything.

I have been hearing and readin on the net that PCI-e will ultimately replace AGP, why is that ?

Oh one more thing, I need a dual head card. Will that come in less than $100 ?

I have not heard of PCI anything replacing AGP, but, then again, I don't keep up on hardware anything like i used to, so I will not say you are right or wrong.

My PNY geForce 5700 runs dual monitors in my studio and works very well...I think I paid $80 for it a few months ago.

I'll look in to PCI-e a little and see what I can find, like I said, I just don't care enough to keep up on all this crap any more, my computer works very well for what I need it to do...so, if it's not the latest and greatest, I just plain don't give a crap anymore...I have better things to do with my time :-)

Ya, the PCI video card's seem to be gaining popularity, but I am with dB on the AGP thing. Only because I know it runs stable and doesnt interfear with anything, at least on my set up's.

Go with AGP for now. PCI-e will be faster than AGP, however, at this point in the upgrade "cycle", DAWs do not like PCI-e. Most DAWs rely on an uninterrupted stream of audio and that all devices play fair & equal and take their turns on the PCI buss. PCI-e devices play different. BIOS updates will most likely help some, but... Go to the RME web site and they discuss the issue, as does ProTools (I think...).

OK, I couldnt resist. I had to geek out and get a better grip on this PCI express thing. I dont see me running out and swapping MoBo's soon, but it does sound like it could cure some problem's some people have with their PCI cards not playing well together.
Anyway, here is the best artivle I could find that almost everyone will understand if they have a little PC knowledge.

Most new hi-end MOBO's dont even have AGP anymore.

Going the way of the dodo i'm afriad.

For Studio applications though you'd have no need to upgrade anyway.

More for gamers.

Jeezuz, I feel so ancient, I got my A+ certification before AGP even existed, now it's being surpassed...

::sigh::

jeezuz, 512 on board, thats insane...but then, the $4000 video cards in my wifes camera/video catalogs are pretty impressive as well, but I'd never buy one...at least not in the foreseeable future.

Next year when the reserves are looking more respectable i'm going to get another and run 'em in SLI!!!

1GB just for video !!

I rememebr the days of allocating 4mb of intergrated memory to the video card to make it a whopping 8mb.

Simpler times.

I think my first video card had 512 K of onboard...

Hell, my first PC back in high school had 64 k of RAM and no hard drive, I stored stuff on cassette tapes.

Yeh mate, my PC is starting to struggle with all the latest games so i decided to splash out and build a decicated gaming machine.

Which means i'll finally have a dedicated studio pc as well so it works out really well.

The Video card alone cost me $1,200 AUD.

You'd wanna be keen :)

dB, do me a favor and dont even mention this to Tuna. Geek boy read about SLI and thinks his next box is gonna go that way. They got a better video card in their box then I have ever had and they gripe about the graphic's. While I sit with a stinkin 64mb card in the studio's main box. Well I'm gonna be fixing that this weekend.
