Nov 25, 2005 04:49 am in a live band situation I record drums, bass and rhythm guitars all at once first. Then punch errors on the bass and guitar, drums if possible. Then dub leads and vocals.

Nov 25, 2005 05:54 am I usually record drums first, with the band listening to each other through headphones and the guide tracks (bass, gat, vocals) DI'd straight into the desk (this avoids spill into the drum mikes from the other instruments). So I'm capturing only the drums as a real take at first, and the rest (guides) just there to help the drummer, and other band members out when they record their bits later. Bass is usually second, but sometimes guitars - it depends on the band and how they feed off each other when they play. Gats third, keys if there are any, and then vocals and backing vocals last.
All the best with your recording experience, Devin.

Nov 25, 2005 05:41 pm Agree with above process. I usually give the drummer a feed from off the guitar player at the least. Usually as above both the guitar and bass to give the drummer the live feel dB mentioned. Then the guitar's and bass can be redone if needed. Then adding keys or whatever and finally vocals.
