AMD or Intel ??

I have heard lot of ppl talk about AMD processors than Intel procs, why is that ? I dont think theres a hell lot of difference in prices of these two procs.Just wanted to know your opinions so I can make a good decision.

Nov 24, 2005 10:54 am AMD made their name in the gaming market years ago because their CPU's tended to play the games faster. I dont think that holds very true these days.
I myself still prefer the AMD for studio use.
Another note on the AMD over the Intel is the fact that AMD can blow away Intel in an overclocking situation as far as stability and temprature goes. I think about that factor when looking at new CPU's as well. I take that as a sign it is a little more durable then the Intel chip.
Just my 2 cents there.

Nov 24, 2005 02:11 pm ...I use an AMD semptron 3000 (2ghz) and the only problem I have heard for AMD is the MOBO's with the VIA chipset (like mine) as VIA is optomized for graphics so you have to download a third party (but free) patch to fix the PCI latency... it's an obvious problem if you have it as the computer will hang on startup if your soundcard is plugged in...
Nov 24, 2005 06:02 pm I think the VIA thing even effects the Intell chips as well. My PIII even has the lag like that. I thought it was because of the large start up menu loading but even after clearing the start menu out it is still the same. My newer AMD on and MSI MoBo boot's rather nicely. I forget which chipset it has but I am sure it isnt VIA.
