hey everybody,
only just a little while ago i stepped into the world of mics and bought a sennheiser e609. I use it to mic my guitar amp and acoustic guitar and am quite happy with my results so far but now i have the need for a condenser mic. Im going to be using it with vocals, double micing my guitar amp and for double micing or just micing my acoustic guitar. Since im new to the mic world does anyone have suggestions as to what a good condenser microphone would be to get for say oh 300 or less that would fit my needs? all help is appreciated.

Nov 16, 2005 05:01 pm ok, I havent used many other mic's but i have a RODE NT1-A microphone and it does wonders. I would definatly consider checkign them out, and the cool thing is, you can get them from jsut about anywhere for $199. Nad if you shop ebay you will get them very cheap. ( ive bought tw0 from ebay, both work great, and combind cost me just under $250)they have very very little self noise (i read somewhere lowest selfnoise in any mic)and work great for acoustic guitar's, vocal's, and every drum overheads. I've used the Nt1-A's side by side some more expensive shure's and the nt1-a always come out sounded better.
Just my two cents

Nov 16, 2005 07:26 pm NT1's are great for the price range...I have two (the origionals). I do some indie video work and have fallen in love with the Sennheiser ME66K6 ($600) it's about 10db quiter than the NT1's and it has immensly better highend reproduction... which I hear is the weak point of large diaphram condensers ...the ME66K6 is a short shotgun basically a very directional small diaphram condenser.
Nov 17, 2005 07:39 am I have a Behringer B1 and whilst it's not the best condenser MIC in teh world, the price was right and the bang for buck is excellent...
Just chippin in you could do worse than a B1...but, the NT1 is surely a better mic .. just giving ye a wee slant.
I'll have a few samples from the said mic up soon for ye to hear as part of my new demo so, ye can have a wee gander for yerself.
Good luck
Coco.

Nov 17, 2005 12:30 pm Hey man,
I have a Studio Projects B3 its a multipattern model and has had excellent reviews. It's also pretty quiet. I am very pleased with it. I was going to get the Behringer like coco but didint want the slightly pronounced top end. The rode is a good mic but its price is probabaly both a reflection of quality and higher production costs.
If I had $300 american to spend I'd get a pair of Studio projects B1 (single pattern version of the B3) they're about £75 stirling each. Stereo baby, stereo.

Nov 17, 2005 04:03 pm Well of course the Sennheiser ME66K6 is going to be better then the NT1. its also 3 times more expensive... and the Sennheiser is not more quite the the Nt1-A... the NT1-A has a 5db selfnoise, where i think the NT1 has 15?16?db self noise.... T
he B1's are good mic's. had a friend with one, and his tracks came out very good using one of them. And though I've never used a B1 to record, i've held one, and it seemed to be pretty well built. where i still prefer the Nt1-A's the studios projects B1's are a good mic for they're price.
just remember.. ebay is your friend.

Nov 17, 2005 04:59 pm Yeah man. e -bay is great.
I'd buy new though. Digital village will price match and they're a friedly, punctual company.
Also if naybody is interested I saw a new pair of Studio Projects C4 small Diaphragm condensers on e-bay for only £175 in vat. Thats nearly £50 less than the big boys and I hear they're outstanding for the money.
