Ya wanna talk horror stories?

My band played a high school art show last friday (we'll play anywhere anytime... every show is worth it to us). Well the deal was, we bring the drums and PA, and we play last. Well the first band played... a band from the high school. They we're pretty good. As the second band starts bringing in their gear, I start seing PA and drum stuff... Well the singer comes up and says they want to use their own stuff, so could we please pull our stuff off the stage. Now normally I juast try to go with the flow, but it took me an hour just to set this stuff up. We came to the conclusion that we would just trade slots. So after we finish, we begin pulling off our stuff. The singer comes back up to me... "Hey man, we forgot our cables... can we barrow some?" I would have been ok had they not been packed under everything else in our van at the time...

Well they took the stage half an hour later than they should have... and then we get the best news of all... THEY'RE A CREED TRIBUTE BAND!! To their credit, they did it well, but this was an art show for the love of god! None of the artists contributed their versions of Picasso. What the hell is a cover band doing at an art show? I'm glad things worked out the way they did though... all the cool "art people" were pissed (I guess they didn't like Creed... or maybe they felt the same way we did about the whole cover thing) and left shortly. By the end of their set, they were playing to a room full of art and the janitor.

Well that's my horror story. I can probably dig some up from the Undergreen archive if anyone really wants to hear any more... but I'd rather not remember those days.

Hi Dingo!

I always love hearing these things. They make me feel so....normal..or something?

I've been debating adding this one but since I am hearing others who do off the wall gigs....

Yesterday we did an old folks home thing. All swing era stuff. For the most part it was great! They where dancing and standing and weaving....kinda like a psyco-mini woodstock! Well here's the kicker...BE CAREFULL WHAT YOU ASK FOR! Our getfiddle player got hit on! Almost literely. This one babe (80+) was stroling up and down in front of the band eyeing him and then approached him mid song and started demanding his attention. Two orderlies drug her off at the end of the song and by then she was yelling "but I want to talk to him!" And she was P/O'ed! He did not respond correctly....I guess! I have never seen him pack and boogie like that after a gig!

here's my first bands experience.

We were playing at our highschool (I already had graduated but recording us was our guitarist senior project) and we werre told after we got there that they had to shorten the schedule to a 15 minute set. . . and we had to use the schools PA and cables. It took 2 hours just to find all of thier equipment. We get plugged in and start. . . three beats later the power for the bassest cuts out. . . then the PA and the magic blue smoke begins coming from one of the monitors.

We didn't even finish our first song. :)

When I play now some people ask me if I get nervous. . . noway! nothing could be any worse than that!

You LIKE Creed? Weathered and Human Clay... they're the same album! My Own Prison was very good, but the other two... they're so formulated... that's just my opinion...

oh, I disagree completely, I find Creed to be a very talented group of guys with some very heavy messages to spread. I personally find their music and style very inspiring, many have said they are Pearl Jam copycats, and while I can see where people here that, I don't agree that they are at all, Creed music is generally uplifting, insightful and spiritual, whereas Pearl Jam is synical and depressing. I think Scott Stapps vocals are very emotional and powerful and the guitar is work (what's his name?) is really cool!

I like Creed's music as well, maybe not as much as you dB, but I do like it. That said, they did get kinda formulaic on the last album. Now, don't get me wrong, I think that some of the songs are good and the message is definitely better than a lot of music out there, but you can clearly see it on the first few tracks of the album. They did the "hearder" songs in the beginning and I think it was an attempt partially overcome the almost galm rock image they had gotten because most of their songs are more balladish now. The rest sound very similar to the Human Clay album. Now, like I said, I like a lot of their stuff, but I can't dispute that they have found a style that sells well adn are trying to stick to it. Pearl Jam, while they are cynical, are more adventerous. It seems that have vered away from making more commercially playable music in favor of branching out into other areas. Not many Pearl Jam songs sound that alike, and while they aren't usually uplifting, there at least usually IS a message and sometimes that is more than a lot of other groups. Just my opinion.

His name is Mark Tremonti.

As for my Creed opinins, I guess I just don't like them because they're writing music to sell records. I don't like music like that. It goes along with my whole "obsession" with Modest Mouse and non-mainstreem bands.

By the way dB... did you get a MM cd yet?

Mark Tremonti, that's his name...good stuff.

Don't get me wrong, I am not a Creed fanatic, I just like their tunes, I actually haven't listened to Weathered all the way through yet, though My Own Prison and Human Clay I thought were great, a couple of very commercial type tunes, but as a whole I thought a great production.

No I haven't listened to MM yet...haven't had the time, but it is on the "to do list"...

I will say this, Creed reminds me of early Live. They were very powerfull with the message's they wanted to get out in their music. Live did try to use the same formula for the purpose of having their own sound, and it worked for a while. I personally like the power of the ballad's that they both have performed, and the higher energy tune's they both have. I have seen both band's live, and they do put on a very good show. The live show's are very differant and the music has a differant feel then it does on the cd's. But they are both very well produced band's with some very powerfull studio backing and time to create a product that sell's. In my opinion, they have done well for themselve's in that respect. At least they are still doing what they want to do, and that is make music.
