Hi,
Does anyone have experience with using multiple soundcards/interfaces? For example, I just ordered a Presonus Firepod for use with my PC and I already have an M-Audio "Audiophile" card. So could I keep the Audiophile and get an extra couple of ins and outs to use in conjunction with the firepod? Or is this not adviseable?
Thanks ever so much.
Alex

Nov 01, 2005 06:29 am Apparently OS X has some kind of "Mega master sound card" thing which joins all your soundcards into one core audio card. Never heard of it on PC though. If I need more tracks, I try and find a second computer lol.

Nov 01, 2005 11:14 pm I dont know how well the two of them will play together to be honest. Usually using 2 of the same manufacturer's cards will work out OK as they can slave together as one via their timing crystal. You might be able to make the M-Audio card slave to the Firepods timing, but I cant say for sure. But usually the differance in how each one would sync audio is what causes the problems when using 2 differant makes of card.

Nov 01, 2005 11:31 pm I have used a fire pod with my audiophile and they worked fine together. I have My omega studio also hooked up to the PC and have had no problem is Sonar with any of them. I had a M-audio Duo Sport and that sucker didn't want to work with any card except other M-audio interfaces.

But does an interface like the firepod
or say that lexicon bit
eliminate the need for anything other then a stock sound card?

Sep 30, 2006 05:29 pm Hey Geoff,
How's it going? Question for you, you said you have used a firepod with a audiophile...I'm trying to figure out how to get a Firepod and a Motu 896HD, daisy chained together to work with CueBase, but can't get it to recognize both interfaces at the same time. Anyone know how to do this? I would greatly appreciate it if anyone can tell me how it done, (with as much detail as possible.)

Sep 30, 2006 06:41 pm You will not be able to get two differant manufacturers devices that use USB or Firewire to work together. The ASIO drivers will not allow another set to be run when they are live. The acception to the rule in Geoffs case is the Audiophile is a PCI based card and not Firewire or USB.
And daisy chaining especially wont work as the chained device will not be seen unless the port it is chained through is specified to be used in that manor. MOTU has a special card that will allow multiple interfaces to be connected into the single card, I dont know about the Presonus unit but I dont think they have that option.

A firepod (or other audio interface) would replace your need for a stock sound card. Many here disable the built-in sound on a mobo, so that it doesn't interfere. You can leave it active, as some do, but I disable it on my main PC. It's still active on my laptop, as I do different stuff with it.
and don't feel stupid, i didn't know that either, until someone told me =).
