ok...theres are things i should already know how to do...but since i never ever really end up finishing projects i start, i havent really got to this phase yet....
first question...i track/edit/mix in Nuendo...and for this project will probably do some rudamentary mastering in Nuendo as well...when i Mixdown the Audio, what sound format am i saving the songs at to give the band on cd? i honestly have no idea...which is nuts...
also...we recorded two songs back to back and i was wondering how id burn them so that the one went right into the other without that little pause in between...
can anyone help me?

Oct 29, 2005 12:38 pm nothing done while mixing is "mastering" it's all just mixing and premastering. When you mix down, save as a stereo audio file, most likely a .wav file. Then, if they want to do all the final mastering themselves, burn the wav files as a DATA disc so they stay as wav files. If you burn it as an audio CD it will convert the wav files into cda files, which is the standard that CD players play...

Oct 29, 2005 02:15 pm I can't speak for Nuendo, but here is how I approach this using Audition. First off, Audition has the ability to burn straight out of the application so all I do is mix it down to the CD project and set the gap to whatever I want. Generally I keep the 2 second gap. If I have to do blends then I will bring in the two songs into a new session and blend them before I mix it down to CD.
I always keep the files in wav format. Like dB's says, if the band wants to be able to master it then you should provide it in seperate wav files (DATA disc) but if it is just for the band to hear, then I would just burn the mixdown to CD using your favorite app. and create a music CD. You can often find that you can set the gap in your CD burning program as well.

Oct 29, 2005 04:42 pm Nuendo should have an export to wave command. Unless it has the ability to burn right from itself you will need to that so you can set it up in a burning program to put to CD. The burning program, at least Nero and Roxio Easy Cd Creator can automatically or manually set the cross fades and gap between the 2 CD tracks then burn it that way. Your only other solution is to simply make it one track and cross fade betweent the 2 songs so they blend together and burn it that way.

As noise said, Nero can do the no gap thing. Its pretty cool too.

Oct 29, 2005 07:55 pm Thanx CS, I knew someone here had a grip on Nuendo.
Oct 29, 2005 08:04 pm Cubase, Neundo, same difference
Oct 29, 2005 08:20 pm ummm, last time I worked with Nuendo it was incredibly different from Cubase...of course that may have changed...
Oct 29, 2005 08:37 pm thanks guys...i needed this...i start mixing tomorrow for this project ive been working on for this band from my town...
dB...i dont have a mastering APP...so i was gonna mix down the songs...and then open a new project in nuendo with a stereo track and do some little things...EQ, compression...thats the most mastering these songs will ever see
Oct 29, 2005 08:43 pm Last time I checked it was basically the same. hmmm
Oct 29, 2005 08:45 pm In all fairness, I used them both over 2 maybe three years ago and they both sucked ***.
Oct 29, 2005 08:46 pm haha. Oh well, cubase works for me : )

Nov 08, 2005 04:54 pm I've been using Magix Audio Cleaning Lab for mastering. Don't laugh....
It gets it done, but it was only $19.00.
Since you have Nuendo (envy, envy), you're obviously not on a budget ($1500!!!!! geesh!), so you should try to get dB-Wan's pet fave "Har-Bal." Not sure if Har-Bal has the burning abilities, so you'd need another app. for that.
Pre-mastering/mixing only gets you so far toward th efinished product.
Nov 08, 2005 05:19 pm No, HarBal is just a spectrum analyzing mastering tool...no burning capabilities.
