im looking around for a cool guitar here in toronto, like at music shops and stuff like that, trying to find some vintage stuff like an old gibson or something that looks and feels unique and stuff. i haven't found anything yet, i was wondering if anyone could give me a good suggestion for an online place with vintage gear (that isn't over priced).

I would check out eBay for starters.

I'd have to agree. I was on ebay a little while ago and I saw some old Gretsch guitars that were for sale that were pretty nice. Good place to start but I'd check out the sleaxier music stores and find out what you like first. Vintage doesn't always mean great. As far as I can here...but I did fall in love with an tele. Thing weighed a ton when I would play though. Needed to lift weights just to play that thing for 4 hours! lol

when it comes to vintage gear, I wouldn't really use the 'net, myself, I think I would rather do what Msharc said and check the local used music stores, you can really find some treasures now and then, even pawn shops can have a good deal now and then...and then at least you can touch the stuff before plopping down the cash.

Places like eBay do as much as they can to protect people from getting ripped off, but it's stiull a pain in the a$$ when something is wrong.

Just some food for thought.

Just one other note, and this is biased slightly, but I hate buying stuff from pawn shops. Whenever I ahve gone into one, they are asking way too much for something. Nature of the business I gues and of course you can always deal, but I would say that if you found let's say a 57 telecaster, and loved the sound, I would then look for it in another store. Pawn shops never put strings on their stuff either, so that is hard to get a true feel for something too. Plus, if its electric, then you gotta plug into whatever amp they have. All food for thought really, but like I said, I am starting out biased. I think you said you were in Toronto, right? I've had several friends, musicians, from that area. If I talk to one of them, I sometimes do now and then, I'll try to remember to ask where they would look. Plus, you can always cross the dreaded border and hit some shops in the states if you can't find any good stores around you, but I would bet that there's some good stuff out there. Also, don't be afraid of some new stuff, if it sounds good, it sounds good!

we've got some great shops, and as for pawn shops theres tons of 'em. my problem is that at this point in time theres nothing in any of them that interests me. ill just have to wait i guess. patience is a virtue.
or something.

Yep, patience is a virtue. In the long run wating for the one that feel's right is worth it. I have grabbed too many that I thought were right and now they are gone. The one called Frankenstien is still here though, because it is built from the best of many differant guitar's. It is mostly Ibanez, but with a funky custom neck and Dimarzio's in all 3 hole's. and custom wired for maximum tonage, one volume knob and no tone knob's. But it will never be replaced.
