What have you got in your Bathroom?
Me, Gothic by Richared Davenport-Hines, Mask Of the Illuminati by Robert Wilson, The Divine Pymander by Hermes Trismiegus, several months of Tape Op magazine, and a book on sword fighting.
Yep, I'm a dork. haha

Oct 18, 2005 07:30 am Damn, I wish I knew where the recent thread-turned-to-bathroom reading thread went, I'd just copy and paste...
- Music Tech Magazine
- Black Belt Magazine
- Brude Berman's "I Got Here, You Can Too"
- a changing list of various programming books
- Sonar 5 manual just left back to the studio
Oct 18, 2005 08:07 am Ah, Teach Yourself VB6 in 24 hours!!!
Going down very well on those long trips to the bathroom! :-) !!
Oh aye, and a pen/paper to scribble lyrics...ye know, it worked for Paul McCartney!!
Cheers
Coco.

Oct 18, 2005 09:19 am Whatever dry-erase ramblings I've writen on my mirror . Mostly one word ideas, pieces of poems, outlines of metaphysical-models of existance, band-name ideas .
I did start reading the Hunter S Thompsons book: "Kingdom Of Fear"... I don't think it will make it into the 'jon, though .

Oct 18, 2005 01:51 pm funny, maybe I'm loosing touch, but I don't page thru catalogs anymore...I just don't feel I need anything any more...I don't have everything by ANY means, but I certainly don't feel I need anything...
Perhaps cuz I rarely get to play in the studio any more except when doing reviews and beta testing :(

Oct 18, 2005 02:00 pm I'm getting there too, though I've been replacing things since the fire, and have a small list to go yet. Otherwise, it's kinda habit to leaf through a couple items and see what's out there. I don't subscribe to any music tech rags (yet) so I'd be reading them if I had them.

Oct 18, 2005 04:08 pm dB, it's the thread by kennywsmith about the FW 1814 in the Home Recording threads. Like I said there, I refrain from reading in there cause I tend to fall asleep. I too have quit looking at the Music flyers, trying to maintain a decent credit rating and bankruptcy won't help. I've got enough to keep me busy for years trying to figure it all out!

Haha, we just painted one of our bathrooms (the one off the studio) with green chalkboard paint. Lots of fun and creative ideas come out of there - lol

Oct 22, 2005 04:58 am Interesting stuff
'50 years of the gibson', electronic musician, my 'yamaha sound reinforcment' bible, and 'Angels and Demons' by Dan Brown
Oct 22, 2005 06:43 am Various: Time, new Scientist, Investigate, Rip it up, Recording magazines
Oct 22, 2005 06:49 pm I am glad to see no one keeps their Bible or Koran in the bathroom... lol....sometime my father has isaac asimov books in there and i read it, but i carry my Reggae Bass book but i finished it and bob marley songs of songs book.....Dan are u a martial artist? cause i am, but i dropped out at brown belt cause my school and football(soccer as americans call it) was taking more time and energy u know and now i am just in my music and i study a lil capoeira by myself on the side
Oct 22, 2005 07:38 pm My Bible is in my living room, not bathroom :-)
And yes, I am a martial artist, working on Blue Belt's in Kenpo and Brazilian JiuJitsu. What style did you get Brown Belt in?
Oct 22, 2005 08:27 pm Don Jitsu Ryu, u can read about it here >>>> purple-dragon.com/ i know alot of these people in person and i know the Professor too....he was world champion a bit of times and then one of the Sensi's from my home town (Arima) dojo who i know since he was a brown belt ( i was a lil kid then) he is a world champion too, Sensi Arnold.
Oct 22, 2005 10:43 pm That's cool. I don't train real "traditional" martial arts, by that I mean in the traditional way, with kata's, forms, point spars and such. It's more technique based with lots of live sparring, which many traditional systems wait to do, if ever. The gym I train at is more mixed martial arts based training, such as UFC, Pride and other such fighters use, and actually, I spent the last two hours at the gym (just got back) rolling with M.M.A. fighters. It's more reality and modern fighting based.
In addition to the Kenpo (Kenpo style of William Chow lineage) and Brazilian JiuJitsu (Royce Gracie Network gym) I also take MuayThai a couple hours a week, however, since that isn't really ranked with belts I didn't mention that earlier, it is a lot of fun tho.
From what I read on the web site you gave it seems that system is a much more well rounded martial art than many, very cool. So many are all standup, all grappling or the like, it's nice to see others styles that cover more than one.
I started a new web site that may or may not interest you at www.midwest-mma.com covering the MMA fights in the midwest area, trying to start a little martial arts forum as well.
Oct 23, 2005 02:44 am we did a balance of kata and sparring in our training...and now and then the higher ranks like brown belts and black belts would do continuous fighting now and then.....but that is more serious than sparring...continuous is tough like boxing
Oct 23, 2005 11:29 am Yeah, I have done some continuous, full speed work, it is hard work, and most of our rolling in JiuJitsu and NHB (no holds barred) classes are full speed rolls, and man, that can gas a guy fast...jeezuz that's hard work...that's what I did last night for a while and my muscles are just sore as hell this morning...but I am going to try to stay for MuayThai after my 4 year olds class...if my muscles loosen up a little.
I like the gym I go to, I can go to as many lcasses as I want, whereas so many limit people to two or three a week. So I often train 10-12 hours a week...and I've never felt more physically sound than I do now in my whole adult life.
It's actually very much been replacing music as my personal release this year.
hahaha, I just saw your title "Armed Protector of HRC" that's awesome. :-)
Oct 23, 2005 03:23 pm did u get a bustted lip or swollen eye from the continuous fighting?....i only did one continuous sparring in my life, well i did b4 but it wasn't so serious as the one i did...they score it much like boxing and its more contact than normal sparring, and very much tiring and u could get fustrated if u getting beat lol.....but i am very interested in capoeira now u know, i can relate to that art more.....well i am armed cause i am the General ;-) lol
Oct 23, 2005 04:10 pm We don't "score" it, it's just practice, and yeah, last night I bled all over my shirt when I got my ear busted open. I have had a couple fat lips, some bruised wrists and elbows. After a few thai kicks to my hamstring one night I had a hard time walking the next day...so, yeah, I have taken my bumps and bruises...it's all part of the game, ya learn to fight, you're gonna get hurt, if you don't get hurt, ya aren't learning much.

Oct 24, 2005 07:45 am So my list has upgraded since this weekend (yay half price books). The throne room now sports:
The Bible
The Koran (not even joking about these two, I saw the post with them mentioned and thought it was a grand idea)
Sepher Sephira (Book of Formations)
Annoted Alice (Annoted versions of Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass by Carrol)
The Egyptian Book of the Dead
The Book of Lies by Aliester Crowley
The Nag Hammadi Library
and several back issues of Tape Op
Oct 24, 2005 08:20 am Sounds to me like somebody is looking for some life answers.
A tip from somebody who has taken the same quest...it's 42.

Oct 25, 2005 12:07 pm Yeah, that's some heavy reading there Loki . I've read a few of those... the Bible, and the Koran you may find to be somewhat paralelle . The Book Of The Dead is a translation of a very long and drawn-out ritual... way-dry read . Crowleys 'lil red book, I found it to be the spiritul'esque-ramblings of a drugged lunatic... kind'a disturbing, and entertaining at the same time, imo . The others you mentioned sound interesting, just remember that 'man' wrote them all... I've always found more truthfull answers outside of our influence . Everybody learns differently when it comes to the spiritual stuff... solo-kayaking put things in perspective for me .
Oh, and dB may be right with the answer being "42", but for a while now, I've been leaning towards the answer being "Schfifty-Five" .

Oct 26, 2005 09:38 am Yeah, tape op hold the key to life itself.
Hue - Crowley actually didn't begin his drug use till after the lil red book was written, so it's just the inane ramblings of a lunatic. hehe.
Oct 26, 2005 09:39 am If there is one person I don't think I'd take life advice from, Aleister Crowley would be that person.

Oct 26, 2005 11:12 am Amen. Why I do think that he had some valuable things to say, if you can decipher through all the trash in his writings, the majority of it is self granduerizing rubbish. His Kaballah and lessons on yoga are sound... but the rest. An interesting read nonetheless.
But yeah, this is a guy who would walk around resturants with a wand and get pissed when you tried to talk to him because he thought himself invisible. Same guy whose last words were "I am perplexed"... do you really want to make him an idle?
Oct 26, 2005 11:13 am Nope, not an Idol either.

Oct 26, 2005 11:17 am yeah and I meant to say while but I am too lazy to edit the post. Don't we have mods to do that or something?

Strange... I suddenly feel very ill...
heh
Oct 26, 2005 12:33 pm i've read my share of that kinda stuff, and i was very curious to 'mystical' things, but i could never settle on anything that accually made sense....Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac, and later Tim Leary and the whole 'Beat' thing really turned me on spiritually. (and i'm an athiest) but that's the best way i can describe it. pre-hippy stuff. and some of the great minds of our time.
