making cables

Alright, so I don't feel like shelling out a crapload of money for cables, and I checked the FAQ written by dB: www.homerecordingconnecti...story&id=26

So if I want to make either balanced, or unbalanced cables, all I need is a shielded two conductor bulk cable, right? Such as the following: www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/...oughType=search

I found this article, and I think it cleared things up for me: www.audioholics.com/techt...sunbalanced.php

So basically, a mic cable would have a positive, and negative conductor, then a shield (ground), and that would make it balanced, right?

And the whole idea is to have the same impedance from the positive and negative conductors to the ground (thus balanced impedance)...

Is my thinking correct?

yeppers, and you can use the same cable to make unbalanced cables aswell...i think you just don't use the shield...not %100 on that though...

my best friend back in Florida works hookin' up audio and video for a buncha huge places, he makes all his own cables now.

definately cheaper, but you put in time.
