a mic wont be stereo, only mono. In the Control panel of your recording app, you should be able to tell the input to create two mono tracks, not a stereo one. This should give you track one, and track two.

If you're using asio, you won't be able to only record one track, asio only lets signal come in in pairs.

As far as the signal being low, are you using a preamp of some sort? You'll need one if you're not.

I'd need more specific info to trblsht further.

Welcome to HRC btw, I had a 1010lt and will be replacing it soon. Nice card for home rec enthusiast.

Im using line-6 POD for directly recording. The signal it's really low and my Line 6 level is on MAX! i don't know what to do, maybe try change the jumpers?
thanks again

That would do the trick for a preamp, so i don't think that's the problem.

There are jumpers, setting the signal level, +4db, 0, and -10db. I'm thinking the card is set to -10db, and I think this is the consumer standard. (hopefully someone else will correct me if I'm wrong).

Anyway, there are input sliders in the control panel for the 1010lt. Maybe the corresponding input sliders is set at the bottom. I've had to play with mine quite a bit going between condensor and dynamic mics. On the hardware settings page, there's variable input sliders.

The jumpers are used to set either mic level or line level at +4 Dbu. The mic level puts a pre-amp in the circuit. This is what u need to do to use a dynamic mic. To use a condenser, u need a preamp, or at least a phantom voltage source. The factory setting is for mic input, but u may need to verify they are correct. They probably are correct if u get a useable signal from your mic. I'm not sure about the ASIO accepting signals in stereo only. If u only connect 1 mic, it will go to either the left or right channel. Your software should let u assign this to a mono or a stereo channel, depending on how u set it up.

Just did some more looking in the manual and found that there are high gain settings via jumpers on the sound card. Check the manual for the correct settings. I suggest using 1 channel at high gain, another for normal gain, then use the line ins for mic preamps outputs, effects, etc. That way, if the mic signal is low, use the high gain channel and vice-versa. If you dont have a manual, go to support page on the M-audio website and download one, or view it on line. Hope this helps.
