Going Way Back Here...

After 2 years of being back to music I'm still not happy with my vocal capabilities yet so I've decided to get back to basics. I've practiced my guitar playing, bass playing, drum playing and even keyboard, but the one thing I haven't practiced is my singing and (to me) it shows. So for the next month or so I'm going be doing what I think will help me emmensly in getting my voice back and that is doing covers of songs I really like and that will push my vocal ability. The reason I'm chosing covers is simple I'll spend my time singing instead of figuring out all the parts of original songs and I'll be doing more than the hour or so of singing required for one of my own. ;)

Don't worry though I'm not going to barrage you with covers, only 1 here or there. LOL I plan on doing at least 1 per week till I'm satisfied with my progress. :)

So here is the first one I decided to do warts and all and its an oldie with a capital O (1963 to be exact).

Anna is the title:

Any comments of course are appreciated. :)

wow dan -- thats great. whos that song by? such a good song, and i dont think ive ever heard it before.

did you sing much in the past? your voice sounds fine to me, really good at times. i think you should let loose a bit more. that will maybe help correct those few little moments there where the voice is off a little bit, or wavery. it sounds like youre holding back a bit. other than that--great.

Thanks forty. The song was written by Arthur Alexander and covered by The Beatles as well as other artists.

I don't have enough control if I let go any more than I am at this point. I used to sing all the time, while I worked, drove, just about everywhere and of course when I was playing my guitar & recording. I had about an octave more range in the 80's and alot better control of my voice. I doubt I'll get the whole octave back but I'll gain alot more control of what I can do. So far over 2 years I've picked up about 1 step, LOL only 7 to go!

Dog,

Sounds great! (I can't wait to hear the rest of 'em!) Your voice sounds pretty good...maybe off in a few spots. Fortymile is dead on with his comment about holding back. It seems like you need to really let 'er rip, and trust your voice. It's clearly there, man, you just gotta go and get it!

Keep up the good work!

Thanks Jim, yep I do tend to hold back a bit. I need a sound proof room, so nobody can here me, then I wouldn't be so self-concious about it. All this practice should help as well, I'll become more confident as I hopefully start sounding better. :)

I appreciate you guys listening!

You know, I really have the same issue with singing as you do. When I'm home all alone and not worried about bothering the family, or trying to sing so they can't hear me, I tend to sing a lot better than when I hold back.

With a wife and four kids it isn't always easy to get time alone....

Good work Dan.

I for one, always liked yer voice man...always. So, fear not duder!!!

The newer stuff sounds just as good if not better than yer old stuff done a long time ago so I reckons, its maybe spots here adn there but in the main, and to my ears, it suits yer songs (yer voice) and I wouldnt change too much if I were you bud.

Jim, same goes for you in my opinion...like both you guys music...a lot.

Anyways, keep it up guys.

Cheers

Coco.

Sounds great OD.
My vocal range is about three semi-tones, so I tip my hat to you, sir.

Thanks guys! I'm hard at work on the next one, I can already hear a smidge of improvement or maybe the song I'm working on now is a smidge easier. LOL :)

I've done more singing in the last week & a half than the whole of 2005 so this will definitley help me thinks! :)

Thanks again for listening and the comments, it's really great to be able share stuff like this over the internet and not always be doing stuff in a vacuum like I did many years ago. I really appreciate it.
