Ok. I posted a space echo for sale online a few weeks ago and recieved several emails from a guy who said he would buy it and would be in town tonite friday 8/26. So he gives me his number and it turns out to be the guitarist from the mars volta. Now. i talk to him a few times, i am put on the guest list to come down, hang out and show him my space echo. i explain that i crashed my car a few weeks ago and all i need to do is find a ride to philadelphia- so i tell him i will call him back either way to let him know if i am coming or not. i find a ride, give him the call that i am coming down and he says " i think i am just going to hold out for something else, sorry man" click.

what a ******* dick. i went through all that work, expecting to hang out with the only new band that i actually like... and they snuff me?

do I-

hold a grudge?
OR
come out with music that will blow them away using what could have been omars space echo.

I AM SO PISSED OFF RIGHT NOW. please someone tell me your opinion on this very messed up situation.

I'd say neither...get a grip, and don't sweat the small stuff. Ya give people a lot of power over you to allow them to get to you like that.

Well, yeah, I can surely understand being upset, but ultimately all it cost is a couple phone calls, it's not like you actually went to philly then got told...is it?

Yeah, it sucks, but eh, life's to short.

of course if I was in the situation I prolly wouldn't be so level headed...listen to what I say, not what I would do :-D

I hear what you are saying. My dad doesnt get it either. hes like blah blah blah.

all i said was "dad, if a guy wanted to buy a guitar off of you right and you find out thats it was jimmy page right after zeppelin II came out, and after a few hours of conversing with him he says hes going to hold out for something else, after promising you a spot on the guest list and to hang out with him and the band etc... would you be heart broken"

what he said was "but hes not jimmy page"

I said" to my generation he will be"

and then i think he started to understand a little.

this guy has been a guitar hero of mine for like 7 years... and now he dissed me!

I feel like writing a record!

well, putting it that way I see what you mean a bit more, but, I do think calling this guy "jimmy page" might be a bit of an overstatement in your anger...

I would be happy if I were you. You not only talked to the Mars Volta guitarist but he basically stood you up :) That's awesome!

Thats true, years from now you can tell your kids and grand kids the story of the day you got screwed over by your hero...there has to be a lesson in there somewhere.

Thats a good way to look at it brockferguson...

heh yeah one of my great moments in my music career is when we were late to a concert and going 80mph down a freeway in a tiny car (Toyota Tercel) and we were run off the road by The Stone Temple Pilot's bus going probably 100mph who were running "later" to their show.

Without a doubt 100% it was him...

california cell phone number and all. Name was Omar, said he was on tour with system of a down... not really too much room for imposting there. we had talked for a while about the spectrum (philly venue where the flyers 76ers used to play) and various guitar effects. it was him- but thats for trying to make me look stupid!

If you dont believe me stupe ill give you his phone number and you can call him!

It's gotta be the alignment of the stars or the power of the farse or something. I have heard more agravating tales this week than I can absorb. Two quick lements:

Last night a buddy of mine told me about how an friend could not make a payement to him on a motorcycle he sold to him for two years. He finaly had to take it back and sell it to another person. Next week said 'no can pay' friend pulls in on a new Harley!

My band, Master is in pressing house, people are waiting to promote it. Drummer finds 'authority' that can 'really spice the mix!' Claims to have found many problems with mix. Pressing goes on hold for a week pending meeting with said athority. Turns out the guy runs carokie at a yaught club.

Meeting people like that make you want to go home and spend a 'hour in the shower'!

Maybe he got a little freaked by a guy that's prepared to do all that just to sell a space echo, he might've thought you were some 'love-knife' type of fan. I don't mean this as a cuss, but it really might've seemed that way.

Maybe he thought that if you did all that to sell him the echo and he decided he didn't want it or it wasn't in the shape he wanted it to be then he'd feel obliged to take it off you anyway having travelled so far, having to sort out a ride and all.

Just trying to give an alternate perspective on things here.

I guess they're opening the SOAD show in my area on the 29th, which I have tickets for . The Mr.Page reference has got me intregued, albeit only slightly... I mean, common...

Anyway Dillon, would you like me to make a big ol' sign with some bizare reference to this ?

Sumpin' like...

" Omar's got NO echo ! "... I dun'no...

Do they have a female singer ?

you should check them out.. radiohead meets santana sometimes crossing into floyd territory..ahh its more than that.. but i really cant describe it.. they are worth a listen even if the guitar player is an a-hole :)

I finally broke down and bought their new CD yesterday... and I'm still not sure what to make of it. I definitly want to check out the first one.

As for the Page reference, I think I'd compare their singer to Plant before I'd compare their guitar player to Page... but that's just me.

Either way, the band has talent, that's for sure. I cought a concert of theirs on TV today and their drummer was doing stuff that blew my mind. Crazy stuff.

Wow, here I am late as always. But I gotta agree that their first release far surpasses this second one. I dont think I will actually buy the second one though as it just doesnt appeal to me the way their first outing did.

mars volta isn't led zep...never will be.

btw there is no difference between holding a grudge and trying to make music that will blow theirs away...

honestly anyone who is wanting to buy something that you are selling as a private seller can back out at any time before purchase without any harm done.

lol!!

JPJ held zeppelin down you can tell this from the live shows, now bonham was good as well but page and plant are hacks IMO... page and plant totally dissed JPJ on the reunion thing, i guess jimmy page would rather play with P-Diddy.. LOL!

i like JPJ's solo stuff.

1) MinkusMaz is right. You can back out of a private deal at anytime unless you sign something.

2) Jimmy Page a hack?!?! I'm not really sure how to defend him except to tell you to listen to the music. Sure "Heartbreaker" has the worst guitar solo ever, but the guy is definately not a "hack".

3) If you can't an least give me number two, you have to admit that Bonzo was one of, if not THE, greatest rock drummers of all-time. Granted rock isn't the most difficult music to drum to, but he's still a stud.

4) GO CHIEFS!

5) Have a nice day.

6) Good-bye

Funk, It just describes his style, not his ability. I prefered his Yardbirds stuff to the LZ stuff. He played with much more style, even though it was mostly blues oriented stuff.

So no, I dont think he is a crap player.

Last night I came to an understanding of exactly what Diller was talking about... The Mars Volta was thouroughly impressive . The Jimmy Page reference isn't uncalled for in the slightest... the man sounds ALOT like Page ! The approach, the chord/scale choices, and THAT 'Page' sound . Of course, he's not Page 'cause JP did it all first, BUT I would say he's as close as this generation will get to that particular energy-signature of a guitarist . Niether are 'hacks', both can be considered top-notch... even if they are jerks/ego-maniacs .

I had only heard one song of theirs before seeing them,(don't know the title) it was their radio-number that gets played by the detroit rock station(s), and I didn't like it at all .(still don't) That coupled with what I had read about them here, I was feeling somewhat iffy on how the show would be, but I still went in there with an open mind actually saying outloud to myself "Good music, is good music, so there'll be no denying what they do reguardless of what I think I know ." No bones about it, TMV is good music, although I can't imagine their studio works being able to approach the passion I witnessed last night . They are an awesome live band, to put it mildly . All in all, if you were to tastefully mix Zeppelin, (early)Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Radio Head, and Nine Inch Nails in a cement-truck, you'd get The Mars Volta . No **** !

Diller, I can understand why this Omar guy would need another Space Echo, he was very abusive with his equipment... about half way through the first song, he threw his Les Paul (about 10')against the corner of the drum-riser, and just let it's sound mix into the the song for almost a minute before picking it back up again, still in tune, and playing the rest of the song . It didn't sound 'bad', or 'wrong', it worked... it sounded perfect... the kind of perfect chaos that Floyd would've induced... goddamn brilliant !
