Hey jamiee I bought almost the same thing (fusion 6 pack). As far as clips and stands, use clips on the toms and snare (but you could use all stands if you want). Then place the two overhead mics (f15's) in an XY pattern over the middle of the kit with stands.

for a pic of it. There are some good articles on here if you want to look in the recording tips section. Good luck.

I'd point the tom mics to the middle of the drums, the snare pointing to the middle of the drum, but pointing away from the hi hat to reduce bleed and phase problems.

Overheads sound nice in the XY position as mentioned by josh, but also try an AB position (one OH either side of the drum kit). IMO this gives a wider stereo image, and less mucking around :P.

Kick drum mic halfway in the drum pointing towards the beater. Put some padding (but not too much! about 15% of the bassdrums volume) in the bass drum as well.

Drums are fun to record though!

sorry to intrude on this topic and by all means answer jamiee's question first, but I wanted to ask you drum mic people: If I buy a drum mic kit, will I also need to get a mixerboard or something to plug them all into? Or do most of them come with a box you plug them all into or something? Thanks

Yes, the mics will have to plug in to something to mix them, preamp them and send them to the amp/recording media or whatever.

Yea, you'll need to buy a mixer or sound card with at least 7 pre amps built in. Oh, and you'll need to buy cables.

Havent seen a mic kit yet thats comes with any soughta mixer sorry.

yah...youll need a mixer to plug those into....because all you get in those kits are Mics, maybe some clips to hold them in place...and if your lucky some cables...the rest is up to you...
