I have £40 to spend, and was wondering if someone could help me choose a new soundcard. I have no idea about anything to do with soundcards, so just reccomend something good for the money I have to spend. Thanx in advance.

Aug 05, 2005 11:03 am Welcome to HRC...and congrats on being member number 3000.
How much is that in USD? What sound card do you have now? If my conversion is correct, that is about $80 US Dollars, right? If so, your choices are limited, but might be able to get an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 as their prices have come down a bit and they are good cards...

Aug 05, 2005 11:29 am What kind of music are you going to be recording? But for that budget you described above. I believe DB is right on choosing that card.

Aug 05, 2005 11:29 am Hey, thanx.
I think it is about 70-80 USD, the sound card I have now is just some standard thing that came with my pc. I wanted to get something better for now until I get the money for a good sound card later.
I'll msotly be recording rock/metal, so I only need to be able to record guitars, bass, and vocals, not necessary at the same time.
Aug 05, 2005 01:23 pm Well, with the card I suggested you could record two at once by panning one instrument left and one right on your mixer and assigning the left and right inputs of the sound card to different tracks.
Once recorded into the tracks, the mono signals can then be panned anywhere you want in the spectrum...just during recording they would be hard one way or the other.

Aug 06, 2005 04:16 am I've had a look at the card you suggested, and managed to find it for about £50 which is a tenner more than I have at the moment, but it shouldn't be too hard to get hold of, so hopefully I should be able to purchase it within the next few days. Thanx for the help.
