I just got this old mixer from a friend.. i think its old. anyhow its like 24 channels recording mixer from Alesis, and the direct outs are RCA outputs weird eh? its weird for me atleast. i dont have a problem wiht it at all its really nice except that im using a Delta 66 soundcard taht only has 4 analog inputs, which makes a problem when im recording my drums. i noticed the mixer has a grouping function, and since there is no manual or support for this blast from teh past i was wondering if anyone knows if maybe i can group a set of channels to work as one channel while others work independantly, and then i can output from taht grouped channel into my soundcard? i use the Inserts as output by the way.

groups would go to a sub out, I'm thinking that there's 1 or 2 sets of sub outs. each channel may have a 'group 1-2' type of button. This would send the channel to subgroup 1 and 2 (stereo). This should work quite well for you, seeing as how you have more channels than inputs on your card, you should be able to group a bunch of stuff together, send it out the subs (or mains) and keep the other individual tracks, individual.

Give the unit a good once-over and look for a model number or a model name. Check the underside of the unit and see if there's any indication of what particular mixer this is. Without knowing that, it's going to be difficult to find out exactly what this mixer is capable of.

Then we can do some Googling on the model number and maybe even come up with a product manual online somewhere.

Otherwise, we'll need a pretty exhaustive description of the channel strips, the bus options, and the I/O on the mixer.
