Looking for a remote control for Sonar Producer 4

I am looking for a remote that I can place in a vocal room away from my DAW that will allow me to activate record and playback functions. Jerod (Who does the singing) an I often have differing schedules and there are times when he would like to slap down some vocals when I am not around to run the controls. Is there something out there that can do the trick? Does not need to be a big fancy item, but if thats all that is available I suppose we will consider it. Any ideas?

I have to do this aaaaallllll the time.

First i have a monitor extension running from my VGA output into my recording room, connected to a spare monitor thats set to clone the main monitor in my control room. Then i have a blue tooth mouse and keyboard (like wireless, but much more powerful and confusing) so i can do everything from my drumstool.

There you have it, a solution for under a 100.

Cheers

Sonar 4, hell get a Microsoft Joystick...I forget which one, but one of their high end joysticks works as a remote for Sonar, some peeps at the Cakewalk forum love it...not that I endorse the Cakewalk forum much, love the products...don't think much of the forum.

if you have a laptop with WiFi then you can use one of those "pc anywhere" or "go to my pc" and control the program remotely. I'm not sure about cost or anything but i've heard of people doing this often.

Yeah with the sidewinder gamepad software, you can create profiles where you can assign any button on the pad to a key press on the keyboard.

I think it'd be easier just to get a wireless mouse and keyboard, then you don't have to be doing up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a, b, a, start to start recording (or to get 30 free men on Contra hehehe)

El Musico: that's not a bad idea either, although there will be some lag between you pressing a button on the laptop and the reaction happening on the PC. But there are free programs that you can use to do this, like the Remote Desktop feature in NetMeeting, which comes with all NT and higher editions of Windows (just type conf.exe in the Start->Run dialog box to install and use it). Also we use VNC and Tivoli Remote Control here at work for controlling servers remotely...not sure if there are freeware versions of those floating around.

I was always under the impression that VNC was free. The one we used to get was.

we used to remote through netmeeting by allowing 'run programs remotely', then start explorer from the remote. It would let you run whatever program from explorer, which ported to the remote. Poor man's remote.

Though VNC is nicer (and free, i think).

anything that has a MIDI output might serve you well, you can assign control messages to, say a drum machine or whatever.
