FYI. I found this recent review of the new ESI audio interface. Its one Im considering as its only $317 with 8 audio inputs...or the Layla 3G which is very similar but $413.

May 13, 2005 06:48 am Ahhhh, but the ESP1010 does not have ADAT, 3G does.

May 23, 2005 11:09 pm The question is though, how many of the buyers looking at those 2 units are going to want or need ADAT?
And I certainly cant justify adding $100.00 just for ADAT. Although someone may be able to.

May 24, 2005 12:48 am I certainly dont need ADAT so it makes no sense for me and would suspect that most hobbiests would'nt use ADAT.
Regarding the Echo, im also reading that some 3G owners are having problems with the drivers due to certain motherboard chipsets that are not supported. I have also heard bad things about lack of Echo support and that they have no forum to use for user to user help. That would seem to me to be a no brainer, or for a company to setup a forum where users would help each other and reducing some of the support burden and enhancing their support for very little cost.
The few times I have emailed EGO support and posted on the EGO forum regarding product questions (I still havent bought one), I recieved very quick response and I thought knowledgeable answeres.....so thats a good sign for me. I was a little concerned with them being a Korean company but they seem to be staffed in when communication are speed of light, who cares if it comes from Korea or Santa Barbara, as long as you get quick help. Add the support to the $100 savings and thats going to be hard to beat.

May 24, 2005 02:34 pm The ADAT can be used for a couple of things. Of course, everyone thinks of ADAT transfer 1st, but there is also the possibility of using something along the lines of an ADA8000 mic pre-amp and it's ADAT outs in order to "add" another 8 inputs to your interface... so is it worth a hundred bux? For me, it was (but I got an EMU 1820M, instead). 'Course, you add in that equipment cost of $230, and the ADAT cost me $330; almost another interface... trade-offs.

May 24, 2005 03:19 pm true, I just dont see a need any time soon for ADAT or more then 8 audio inputs for that matter! LOL
If you already got some ADAT legacy gear that adds to your capability, I can see it making sense to have the ADAT.
