Here's a song my sister and I did, Time In A Bottle. We did this live for my family, and she wanted to record it to have a copy. We didn't have a lot of time to record, but it worked out OK. I was done mixing, and starting to master when the house burned down, taking all work with it. I listen now and would change some things, but oh well.

Comments and opinions are welcome, though I can't do much without the tracks. I'll prob up the level, and add some hi-end, but can't do much otherwise.

This was ripped from a early pre-master I sent her to hear, so I still have the stereo CD track.

Very good indeed...and good guitar playing for sure.

Very cool - vocals suit the song very well and good vocals at that.

That major change in the chorus? is very cool tae...not expected and totally gives it dynamics.

Sound as!

Coco.

Thanks for the input and kind words. We're working on another collab, but there's three people involved, and it's going real slow.

She did the vocals only, I played the git, an ovation acoustic/electric. I played direct into the board. She was singing in the same take, across the room.

I added bass after, then the lead part after. That was a 12 string acoustic I used for lead, I wanted the 12 string sound, but it didn't mesh well, so I started adding FX, and it evolved into the sound you hear.

The vocals and 12string were recorded with my studio projects B3. Quite a nice mic, IMHO.

I wanted the bass to be real 'low-key', not real prominent, but was there filling in the bottom.

You should be able to tell that the lead is different. It's got a phaser, or flanger, hell I can't remember.

I guess I was shooting for her voice being the key point of the song, everything else should build up her vocals.

nah, this is a jim croce song, outta the 60's or 70's. after doing this song, we listened to his version, and ugh, I like ours way better. So does my daughter and my other sister as well.

I put the song on a CD to send to her for a listen, and so that is the only copy I have, the tracks are gone. Now that I got it back, I'm going to bring up the hi-end, and bring up the volume, normalizing, I guess. I just haven't gotten to it yet.

I was wondering when that was going to come up =).

I remember Tadpui making mention of the many advantages of micing an acoustic over DI. Oh well. When I get my stuff replaced, I'll be in a much better position to record better. Though it didn't turn out too bad as it was.

Yep this one of my favorite Croce songs, and you both did a fantastic job of it. I wouldn't change anything, the mix sounds great to me.

Wow! This is very good. It just goes to show you that no matter how much fancy schmancy gear a guy has...a great recording has to start with a great performance!

This is outstanding! I'm a big Jim Croce fan, and I think that you have done his song justice. I'll bet you can't wait to get your studio up and running again!

wow, thanks guys, I (we) really appreciate it.

Hopefully we can get this other collab going so we'll have another offering soon. Probably won't be for awhile though.

Yeah, Jim, I'm working on this laptop and us-122. While it works, i'm certainly restricted from having a studio, with two computers, and board, and space to work in, etc. oh well, it's coming along, we're getting close on our contents list, so I may be able to start replacing in the next few weeks. Unfortunately, the house wont be for a few more months at least.
