Fixing my voice

I play a little of everything and decided i want to start recording. I am not just going to ask what to buy to get started. i am sure you get lots of those and i will just poke around until i find one. i do have a few specific questions though.
to record my voice (which is mediocre at best) what is the best tool as far as pitch correction, effects, and back up vocals. i was looking at tc helicon products and they all look good, but i really have no idea.
my second question is if i buy a midi keyboard, what kind of software do i need for it to work and make real synth/piano sounds through my computer.
if there is anything out there that i just install then plug the keyboard in and it works would be best for me because im not the most computer literate person in the world (though maybe a little more than average)
any imput would be appreciated.
thanks, jake

if you like christian rock be sure to check out the only christian metal band i have ever liked: stavesacre. rivers underneath is a great song to check out.

i use heavy compression and short reverb (shorter than bathroom type reverb). double tracking serves as a chorus effect, but if you dont stay pretty closely on key, it will just sound messed up.
if your voice is unstable, you can mess with copying the single vocal take and using a delay and chorus in that case.

For pitch corection there are a couple of routes I would recommend. The first is AutoTune from Anteres. It is the industry standard but is VERY expensive. It works great though. There is a licensed and stripped down version called OBTune. Do a Google on it . And finally, there is another program called Melodyne. It is like Autotune, but more powerful, less known and MUCH less expensive. (In comparison)

There are alot of great plgins for effects out there. Many good ones come with populare recording software programs, Many are free and there also alot of expensive ones out there. I have not had any experience with the free ones, but many people here rave about them. Do a search of the site and you will find many references.
Good luck.

Welcome to HRC Godsfirefighter (gotta love that nick).

I'll pass on the first query, as it's been addressed and I can't add anything useful.

On midi keyboard, i've been dabbling in that lately, i've used FL studio (fruity loops) for my synth noodling. As soon as I plugged in a keyboard (yamaha PSR500) it started playing back the sounds of the sampler I had active. I would believe that most (if not all) sampling/ synth programs would play from a midi keyboard pretty easy.

I was playing soundfonts, as well as software synths from the keyboard through the computer.

As far as a choice, there's bunches of choices, of which I've mentioned one, that's used a fair amount by others, but there's more active members there that use reason, and some others I can't remember at the moment. If you search for soft synth in the old posts, you'll probably turn up a bunch.

As an aside, FL studio can be had for 100$ i think, there's others cheaper, and more spendy. Lots (including FL) have demos that'll help a bunch. It's a pretty big field to cover. Good luck.
