Hi there,

We are the Dorktones, a three-piece garage-pop combo from the Netherlands and we've recorded this song called Wouldn't you love to hate me a while back. It's a 13 track powerpop song and we would like you to contribute to this one, if only to create a great retro-sounding mix out of the source material. The song includes drums, bass, guitar, vocals, and an odd tambourine. Source material is pretty raw and rather lofi but that shouldn't be an issue since we're aiming at a vintage garage-style production.

We released the source tracks for you to play around with. You can download the tracks here: www.dorktones.com/index.p...3&Itemid=62 You can check out our own attempt at a decent mix here: www.dorktones.com/index.p...aySong&id=8

Anyway, please visit our website for some more sound bits and our own podcast at www.dorktones.com

Thanks,
The Dorktones

Welcome to HRC!

Nice stuff, listened to some of your other tracks as well. You do seem to have the 60's garage sound down. I liked the covers you did, very nice.

I might take a crack at your tune. You dont state the BPM though, for those of us who might want to chop it up a bit. Although its not a necessaty it might help some who are just starting out with software rcording programs to have a bit of a guide.

Anyway, also checked out The Sound of Music as well. I assume from the sound the 2 bands are either the same group, or some members of each?

Either way good stuff for sure.

Thanks for your kind words Noize2u!

As to your question about BPM, I don't know the BPM. I do know that it varies a lot and lacks any consistancy (We tend to blame our drummer for that and often hint on getting a machine instead :-)).

You're right on the two bands. The Sound of Music and The Dorktones are the same but we've decided to use the Dorktones 'brand' for now because it better reflects who we are: just three dorks. Plus it's more google-friendly by the way.

All tunes on our site were recoded in our practice studio, using a crappy Dell laptop, it's internal soundcard, sm58 mics and fender amps run through the PA we normally use in practice sessions. We use Cakewalk Guitar Tracks as recording software. Tonight we'll try out Garageband in a 'live' recording session. If it works out we'll post some stuff on our site as well.

Again, thanks for the head-up.

Ya, drummers usually get the blame for straying tempo's.

Agree with the Dorktones probably drawing more attention as well. Not that The Sound of Music isnt interesting, but I would guess web hits are from the generation searching for Julie Andrew. :-)

Honestly you seem to have gotten that 60's sound with whatever you were using for sure.

I will definately check your site out more often.

I centainly like it, you almost sound a little bit like the strokes. I don't know whether you'll think thats a compliment or an insult, but I'm definately meaning it as a compliment!

Keep up the good work, and I'll keep checking back at your website.
