i got my first gig today dooin' audio restoration.....well the client didn't specifically say they wanted it cleaned up, they just want it on CD....but i see this as a good time to sharpen my skills in this area....it's a guitar instructional tape that is store bought. so i'm assuming i won't hafta do much "mastering" type stuff...basically just noize reduction and what not....i've got access to Adobe Audition so i'm thinkin' this looks like a job for that. i've got sonar and wavlab but i don't think i have any noize reduction tools.....thing is, i've never used Audition (the friend that has it, has no clue how to run it)....so should i just play in wavlab with my eq's and just try to eq out hiss and what not, or does audition have one of those sweet plugs that "samples the noize" and then eleminates it? Db ya got any tips/tricks or adivse? deadline is Wednesday. also how much should i charge? there's 200 audio examples that i will be putting into track groups of 10.
thanks

Apr 23, 2005 02:57 pm Well, I use Wavelab for my NR jobs with some old plugs from Sonic Foundry for noise reduction, and they friggin ROCK. TracerTek also makes NR apps.

Apr 23, 2005 03:01 pm Audition has an excellent noise reduction tool as well as other tools for cleaning up audio WYD, probably one of AA's greatest strengths. I've taken some of my old recordings on cassette that were barely playable and cleaned them up a huge amount.

Apr 24, 2005 12:49 am Yep, same here about the Sonic foundry NR tools. They completely rock. Its all I use. I dont know why but there presets even work excellant for the biginer.
Apr 25, 2005 12:19 pm ok interesting turn of events.....first i tried Audition, but i didnt' like their NR tool, i fiddled with it for 10 mins but it added some wierd pitch warble to guitar notes that rang out...so i opted not to mess with it....so i Sonar, i normalized and exported 20 tracks individually....16/44.1....but when i go to burn the cd Nero says it can't recognize the file....WTF!!! i think this has happened to me b4 but i don't recall why....any ideas??? i'm prolly gonna hafta re-export, maybe not "fast bounce" i donno....2 days to figure it out.

Apr 25, 2005 03:33 pm If your using AA 1.5 set the Spectral Decay to 0, also try keeping the amount % at about 75% or less along with about 20-30dB reduction (use the lowest amount you can). Try to capture about 2 sec's of the noise for a good profile. With those settings you should get very good results.

Apr 25, 2005 10:35 pm WYD, NO USE FAST BOUNCE when exporting to wave to burn. Export to standard wave, that will get er done.
Apr 25, 2005 11:34 pm ok i tried "slow bounce" and that didn't work....here's what i'm noticing:
when i press play in track view, the track shows an automatic and instant clip at 0.0db in red....regardless of gain settings.
if i import into wavelab and don't change a thing, then Save As the exact name...nero recognizes it.
i've had this happen b4 but i can't seem to pinpoint what's happening or where/when it's happening....
strange days indeed

Apr 26, 2005 09:26 pm What did you end up doing?
Apr 27, 2005 11:24 am the wavelab trick...took some extra time (had to import/save as 22 times) donno what was up with that though...oh well, it's over.

Apr 29, 2005 07:23 pm Just for kicks I would make sure you have the latest Nero updates as well. I tried several exports with Sonar 3 and all worked out well. Not one bunk export in the bunch.
Apr 29, 2005 07:41 pm yeah i've done plenty of exports myself...the only thing i can see that's "wrong" is the meters in track view that show clipping right at 0.0db at the very instant i hit play....for the life of me i can't figure out what's causing it...also, how much quality do ya think is lost with the "fast bounce"??? i do it for ruff mixes and what not, but on more important things, i do the slow.

Apr 30, 2005 07:17 pm It is just the fast bounce may work fine with a lower track count. Not so well with a full blown project of audio tracks.
