Damn Rolling Stone

This month "50 immortals" in the music biz voted on by other musicians.

Aerosmith, Howlin' Wolf, the Almans, Dr. Dre, Tupak Shakur, lots good peeps that have had real impact in pop culture...then...Eminem...WTF.

Now, to me "immortals" are peeps that have stood, or will stand, the true test of time...Eminem is nothing but a little blip on the radar with great success for a brief period..immortal...OMG I hope not.

not a chance...I think his lyrics are trite and driven on shock more than emotion. a little white boy trying to be tough.

Yeah, I find that a bit difficult to swallow, as well... but I'm not into the genre at all .

I once had a US customs agent MAKE me say "Rap isn't music ." before he let me cross into Canadia .

Total abuse of power, if you ask me .

heh He said it three times himself, just getting his point accross .

Yeah... he was a musician ! heh heh

I sincerely think that it would've been "tear-down-city", if I hadn't agreed... based on the fact that rap is more of a prose-form, set to music .

I guess I can't name a single Canadian rapper, so maybe rap isn't a music form in Canada! :-D It surely isn't in my household.

Yeah Eminemenemenem just seems like a shock-jock homophobe that was in the right place at the right time. Skills or no, I just don't have any respect for him or his music.

Anyone remember the rapper named "Snow"...with his song "Informer" from the early 90's...He was from Toronto.

As for Eminem...he's not "immortal"...Eminems career started in 96 97 98...somewhere in there. It's just an *** kissing move by RS. Em' was founded by Dre', whom I believe is a good pick. If it weren't for Dre' he would still be in shacks battle rapping. There are a million white boys out there like him doing the underground scene. The kid made a movie on how hard his life was and that's what probably deemed him immortal.

You know, with the right conditions...If Dre came to me with a contract I could buy my way into that mag as well...

I have a lot of respect for Dre...not necessarily his music or anything, but just the person he has become...I dunno about "immortal" there either, but he is surely someone noteable.

Well I think if you can survive the Death Row Records camp you should be noted as something.

Pac is dead...Suge is a convict...Snoop is everywhere including promoting porns. Dre, I mean he did live his image for a bit...got shot, got arrested, but eventually he's wisened up and always been able to do his thing and have it stir the pot...

I dont like all his stuff but I like him.

Well, I truly believe Dr. Dre will be considered an immortal in pop music when all is said and done. His "Chronic" albums will both stand the test of time as greats. And he has produced enough hit music aside from his own albums that I think he deserves immortal standing.

Eminem on the other hand has not been in the public eye for long enough to be deemed immortal. He may get there one day if he continues (though if he continues in the trend he's going now, he'll be gone soon - recent stuff that I've heard is garbage). He had one very good album, and some other mediocre albums. There are thousands of other kids doing the underground thing, but he has a style of his own that sounded unique when he first came on to the national scene.

Canadian rappers, just to name a few that are in my collection: Bird Apres, McEnroe/Pip Skid, Swollen Members, and Moka Only. I've also downloaded a couple of tracks from a group called Dragon Fly Empires which are very good. These guys are all from the Vancouver area. If any of you know any from the east coast of Canada, please let me know.

Very funny coolo, made me spray my moniter with green tea.

Did they mention Prince? Not sure if imortal fits, but he would be close, at least in Minnessota.

Clapton should be another, Santana, both have been around longer then most bands or musicians mentioned so far.

Rolling Stone has gotten to be nothing but adverts and crap articles. I had subscribed to it since the very first issue. My cousin bought me a 3 years subscrition for my birthday one year. And I just kept getting it. I would wait till the end and hold out on resubscribing and they would send a special for buy 3 and get 3 free. I finally stopped it completely about 6 or 7 years ago because it got som full of crap. Then I took my entire collection of them and donated them to the school my kids went to. They re outfitted the entire school with new computers with what they auctioned it off for.
