synth info needed

hello

I'm buying a synth to flesh out some of my mainly acoustic recordings and really not sure where to start. Firstly, i can't play so i ain't gonna spend a lot.

Secondly, i can only offer a couple of recordings as guides to the type of sounds i'm after. I love the synth on Flaming lips 'yoshimi battles....' album and also some of the stuff on Becks 'mutations'.

I'd also love to be able to do slightly bizzare sci-fi effects.

I know i'm not helping much but there goes. My limit is £150 and i suppose my realm will be second hand e-bay.

Are there any key words i should be looking for in the descriptions? Heres a couple i'm looking at....would they be any good? If you could tell me why they would or wouldn't that would be ace.

Thanks very much

Mark

Id get any old lame controller, and get a computer and a bunch of soft synths and have thousands of sounds at your disposal...

Right-on, the #3 is a synth AND a lame controller... with pads !

well, the PC route your just need one keyboard purchase, then just download more samples and sounds to use with it on your PC to use, you don't need to buy a new keyboard every time you want a new sound...but eh, if you don't want one, thats cool...

No computer for the midi, eh ?... well, you might be able to get the sound you're talking about, but I wouldn't expect anything stellar out of any of those models . Maybe with the technique you mentioned in your profile ? I've been turning my Casio cheesmaster 2000 into an ok synth that way for years . heh Still hit and miss, though . : )

Yeah, without a synth prog/computer, I second the Korg-maybe .

If you can swing the Korg it will be much more versitile and give you more original sounds. The Yamaha is more of a home entertainment type unit. Not a very serious keyboard. Although it will work good as a controler or a good starting point.

To bad ya missed out on the Casio CZ-1000. For some odd reason those were the thing to have in the day. I should know, I owned 2 at one time. They had some very unique sounds. But were a royal pain to program.
