So that's what an OHM is

The rack and Pro Tools are more or less tied together, and I've been put on a leash by Pro Tools for the bulk of my recording, unless I want to keep seding audio to other programs.
But I was wondering if anyone has discovered a method of bypassing the Pro Tools dependence and using the 002 with other multi tracking software. I still want to use it as the interface, and be able to record 8 tracks at one time. But LE is limited, and gets bogged down and annoying. I've only had the rig for a couple of months, and I've learned a ton since then. So is there a good way to deal with the issue, or ditch Digidesign in favor of another control surface/interface/recording program?

Mar 31, 2005 05:45 pm As a rule ProTools hardware and software are very dependent on each other...very propritary stuff. That said, the only app I know of that works with PT hardware is Sonar.

Mar 31, 2005 07:21 pm Really? I had been thinking of picking Sonar up before I was talked into the Rack. I'll have to look into that.
Mar 31, 2005 07:27 pm whoever talked you in to the rack...ignore them.

Mar 31, 2005 09:28 pm Well, too late to ignore them. Someday, when I can work up a couple more grand, I'll replace everything with a new PC and some fine interface hardware.
But by the way, you were right. Cakewalk made Sonar compatible with Digidesign hardware back in 2002. Which means I can keep the hardware. Thanks for the info!
How much ought the Sonar 4 Producer edition run for?
Mar 31, 2005 09:33 pm At Musician's Friend it's $599, if you buy thru this link service.bfast.com/bfast/c...mp;bfmtype=gear it gets HRC a little commission to help support the site :-) But getit where ever you can legally find it cheapest.
I use Sonar 4 PE, it's an awesome, powerful and very intuitive package.

Apr 06, 2005 12:01 pm I heard from digidesign's website that they recently released ASIO drivers for their gear.

Apr 06, 2005 10:00 pm Well about 5 years too late. They should have thought about compatability years ago. I would be guessing they were not selling the gear at a good rate so decided to jump up a notch.
But good for them. Now just hope they are stable.
