Mic-Pre ideas?

I'm about to upgrade my system by purchasing the Shure SM57 mic, and the MAudio Audiophile 2496 sound card. I'm looking for preamp for the mic, but not a mixer, between 50 and 100 dollars and there seems to be millions. Any suggestions?

The preamps on most soundcards sound just as good as cheap preamps tube or not.

Id say save yourself the upgrade hassle later and just get the delta 10/10 soundcard. That way you will have a sound card and two preamps. plus room to add better preamps later.

Noticable difference in preamps usually come at a noticable difference in price.

yeah i wouldn't get a one channel mic pre until i got a condensor mic that needed phantom power...you can get a two or four channel mixer with pres for a bit more $$.

There is no preamp on an Audiophile 24/96. You're going to need something to bring your mic signal up to line level.

I use an ART tube pre...it's fair but certainly not wonderful. It is very quiet though.

I think that just about any preamp in the sub-$100 range will perform just about the same. I hear good things about the M-Audio pres.

I've got a Behringer Ultragain Pro and i have no complaints but, having said, i'm not really sure what i'm looking for that's bad. Sounds fine to me.

I know it's too late, but my Audio Buddy works just fine! I've had no issues, and you can get it for $50
