Guys, I know this is a bit cheeky of me but there is a fairly big song writing comp here in Australia that i wouldn't mind having a crack at!

I was wondering if you might be able to tell me if either one of the following songs 'might' be commercially viable.

I will re-record and re-arrange either one when i decide.

Sorry to a pain in the *^&% guys!

"Day alone" - homerecordingconnection.com/m3u.php?id=489

"Little One" - homerecordingconnection.com/m3u.php?id=478

I PROMISE i'll buy you all a beer!

Well based on my listening in my local market ie: what I hear around here ;) I'll give ya my opinion for what it's worth.

"Day Alone", I think has potential but I think it would have to be beefed up tone wise. I think it's a great song but in it's current form it sounds more 70's than 00's, though song structure and vocal works more inline with current rock.

"Little One", Again I think it's a great song, but this one I'm not sure would have much chance commercially which is a shame cause it really is cool tune. There is a station around here that this could be on, but it's not the main line rock station(s).

In Australia both of them might have the potential, since it seems outside the US there is quite a bit of the older rock sound happening, so give it a shot, you got nothing to lose. I do think Day Alone would be your strongest bet if you can only submit one. :)

Cheers OD

I was leaning toward 'Day Alone'. I will definately try and do something with the sound. I need a gruntier Guitar i think :) i have les paul copy basically and it sounds great but doesnt have the 'crunch' needed for this type of song.

Thanks for listening OD.

Bleak,

I, too, feel that "Day Alone" is the more commercially slanted tune of the two. It's a great song.

Good luck!

It's infectious...I'd like to teach it to the little kids at the library today, but I think they might not appreciate the true spirit of the song. (Not to mention the fct that I may be banned from the library forever if I do!)

Bleak, I gotta agree on Day Alone as well. It would be the more commercially viable of the 2 for sure.

But that said, it indeed needs much more punch. Your vox are great as they are with maybe a touch of verb to set em in the mix. I would suggest if your guitar seems to be a problem and there is not another available for you to use, maybe try some of the pluggins available to add more punch to it. The bass really should be compressed and given more punch as well, work on the thud of the bottom end to get it really alive in the mix.

As for the drums, they have a nice live sound to them, but again they are sitting way back in the mix. They seem to be behind everything, which is not a completely bad thing, but they should have more presance in the mix as well.

So my advice is to work that track hard to get it punched up to a more polished level and you should be good to go.

heya bleak

I'm for Day Alone,
it grabbed me more from the start then little one,
I think you should put that one up for the comp.
