Help I can't record and listen to my guitar at the same time.

My current setup is my guitar plugged into the input on my Pod 2.0. Then I have a Y cable plugged into the R and L outputs of the Pod that go into my Soundblaster Live Gamer 5.1 soundcard using Cubase SX. However, this is where the problem lies. I want to be able to record and listen to my playing through my headphones connected into my Pod.

As of right now, in order for me to record guitar tracks I have to change my settings on my soundcard to digital output only, but when I do this I can no longer hear my guitar playing and vice versa when I switch off digital output. Is there any way to both listen through the headphone output and record using the line in on my soundcard? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Don't monitor thru the Pod. Don't "send" back to the pod with anything. Monitor thru the computer soundcard's line-out with your headphones. Then add guitar tracks 'till your heart's content. Use your sound card's synth to add keys, drums & bass. Won't be of that high of quality, but it'll get your ideas down.

The Soundblaster doesn't have "phone out", just line-outs (2 on the 5.1, if I'm not mistaken), which are pre-amplified and can drive a set of cheese cans.

If you have the money I would pic up a USB converter. I got the tascam us122 and it has a direct monitor feature. Basically it replaces your soundcard but its so easy and quality is fantastic. I go out my line-6 to the tascam into the line in. I adjust levels and monitor through headphones. also if you have drum track playing it will send the audio out to the tascam which allows you to play along and not have to worry about latenency. When you ask the computer to do the processing of the sound before you hear it you will get some delay...Maybe I'm wrong in regards to the soundblaster sound cards...the us122 ran me about 190.

Good luck hope this helps
