How should I record bass guitar?

How could I get the best possible sound when recrding bass from a 6 speaker cab powered by an ampeg amp. The amp goes pretty loud, so it would be a bit strenuous on the ears to record with my amp cranked up. What should I use to record given that I am recording with a digi002 and have access to multiple shure beta 58s and a high quality condensor mic.

i'd go direct from the head (ampeg is good stuff) and mic the cab with a large diaphragm dynamic if you have one, if not just go direct...
i'd mic it with the 58 i guess just for poops and giggles.

yep, I second the motion for going direct.

The Ampeg SVT model on the Bass POD is awesome! hook that model to a 8x10 Hartke cab model and it's one huge bass sound...no miking needed.
