Well I just spent the entire weekend about 24 hours of it anyhow, recording "Girl For Me" only to find out when I got to the vocals, I put it in too low a key and it ain't workin!! I am fit to be tied, I'm seein' double and I'm ready to start throwing things. <G> Thats what I get for not laying down some scratch tracks and trying it first I guess.

There I feel a little bit better after venting.

Think maybe I'll just skip this song.

Can you do that 'pitch shift' thing?

That is a pain in butt Dan..I used to do this often..very very often! You are not alone.

Worst thing was, it wis always for.....MY OWN SONGS!!! goddamnit...I write songs and tunes I cant sing in! Edjit I am..

It may be an option to use a vocal pitch corrector to a point if ye have one...dunno - not a bad idea there...or, retrack (grrrrr - I knows that feelin!!).

The other option is to use the pitch corrector as mentioned and alter the geetars and bass down a a key?

Good luck either ways..I feel yer pain dude.

Bummer...my condolences my friend.

Gotta say I've been there and I am sure I will be there again. Tempo's wrong, keys wrong, fills argue, .... on and on. One way to fix it ... bummer.

Hey Dan...maybe there is another HRC-er with a lower voice that could put some vocals on for you.

That's a great song...how much lower is it than your original recording?

Yep this sucks. The song is in a comfortable range for me, but lacks the energy the original had. Problem is if I raise it anymore then the harmonies will be out of my range, damned if do damned if I don't. LOL I did do a sing along prior to recording it and thought it would sound okay, but that obviously didn't work. I'm going to fool around with it some more, maybe do a test run in another key, but dang thats sounds like too much work. <G>

I've been experimenting with raising the pitch in software, but I can only go about 1/4 step before it starts sounding funky. It sounds a bit better but I'm still not happy at all with it.

Jim: You volunteering? <G> I can sing it no problem, but I can't get any umph to it, no strain. Originally the song was in the key of D, now it's in E and sung an octave lower. What I did to keep the sound of the song was to capo at the 2nd fret. I tried other non-capo'd chords for the song but didn't really like the sound of it, it really needs IMO that D chord fingering.

xtc: That looks and sounds like a really cool piece of software, and I'd even consider something like for harmonies but not for the lead vocal, it just wouldn't be the same. :)

Yes...I was volunteering :-) However, that sounds like quite a drastic drop: almost a whole octave. Like you say, you really lose a lot of energy when you do that. You might be better off to tighten up the under drawers and go up a step from the original. Give it a shot and see what happens.

Yep Jim 1 step shy of an octave drop, it was a more drastic drop than I originally thought. I need to get it about 1/2 octave lower from the original then I think it would work, but I don't like any of the chords to get it there LOL.

I'm messing around right now with pitch shifting just the music 1 # and I'm going to try singing it to that.

If you want I'll shoot you an mp3 of the music and you can see how it feels to your voice. It's really not that low, till you compare it with the original. <G> It would work perfect for a softer song. :)

Presely thanks for the offer, I'll probably be taking you up on that if I re-record it in a different key. :)
