Sonar 3 and Fostex FD-8

I was wondering if anyone had some guidance on the following setup.

I have a Fostex FD-8, which I will be using along with a Behringer ADA8000 to record the drums and then mixing the drums down into Sonar. However when recording the drums I will be taking up all 8 track (via ADAT) on the Fostex so I will have no space on the Fostex for the backing track for the drums. I have always recorded this way and not with live guitars, makes life easier (for me and my drummer)

I was thinking a recording the backing track in Sonar and then syncing it up via Midi to the Fostex. Then using a midi clock, could I then record the drums to the Fostex and wherever I go on the Fostex I will sync up to the correct position in the backing track in Sonar... I hope this make sense!!

Anyway is this possible?

according to what I read about the fostex unit you can only record two tracks at a time.

as a whole I have read some bad reviews of that product just now, not the best for recording drums, thats for sure...if you want to keep each mic isolated in the recording...

I will work with the ADA8000 as the Fostex has ADAT capability meaning each mic will be isolated to an individual track.

The question is whether I can sync the Fostex with Sonar with time code?

I couldn't tell you how, but yes, you should be able to, Sonar has a great deal of syncing options.

Grum,

I do not understand how you are recording all 8 tracks at once individualy with an FD8?

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
