Anyone know where I can get a good deal on Reason 2.5 ?? It's being discontinued by a lot of retailers as version 3 is coming out in the near future (already by Musician's Friend).

just got a flier from Guitar Center they are selling it for $199, which makes me wonder if would be cheaper to do that then upgrade, or would it be the same price as reason 3.0

xtc I suggest you get a demo of each and try them for yourself It really boils down to what you find easier to get your head around and you can be the judge on which has the better tools for the job.....Now I am a Reason user and I love it.I personaly think Reason blows FL away aswell but I also think there's a "beef" between FL users and Reason users so you gotta try'em yourself rather than take the word of someone basicly backing up there product. In which im going to do now....actually what is it your looking to do with a program like this? cause you may not even need something like this

I think Reason comes with better sounds and has a more creative graphical layout. But I still prefer the ease of FL. Also, you can incorporate Reason into Fruity Loops. I'm not sure if you can incorporate FL into Reason. So maybe you could buy FL first and then get Reason later? But like Renegade said, try the demos. You'll get a better idea then. Also, I find FL easier to add and maintain effects as well as to sequence everything. My vote goes to FL.

Your using audition right?and there for doesn't support vsti's but does support vst tho right?
so you won't be missing anything by excluding vsti's from the picture...So if you end up liking it Reason would be great cause it's rewire compatible as is Audition, from there you can do your midi/audio tracks using your live instruments and all the cool stuff in Reason and track your vocals with DX and VST effects and plugins at your disposal!I personaly think Reason is capable of much more than FL the only grude people really have against it is it has now audio capabilities nor plugins of any kind. But that all fades away when rewired to a host app like Cubase/Audition or what not so really theres nothing it can't do except mabey do your laundry....Reason Rocks!!!!

Yea, if you use a program like Audition or Cubase, then you can import Reason into it (Re-wire). Then you can use the DX, VST effects as well. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe Reason uses less system resources as well. I grew up on FL so I know almost everything about the program which is why I like it. Plus I like how I can record vocals directly into a beat all using only one program. Once Reason makes it possible to record vocals directly in real time, then I'll give it more of a try.

Battery 2 does all the programming the host application will allow, plus the kits it has (3GB worth) are stellar.

i'm a die-hard reason user formerly of FL....i think FL is way too easy and anything that easy ain't worth it to me,just like a chick.....the stock sounds on reason blows FL by far plus you can get refills, idk if FL has refills but i guess it doesn't matter as long as you got good sounds....i sample so stock sounds are secondary to me,i just need sumtin with good drums and percussions with a sequencer but it's up to you....like as mentioned, download both demos for urself

*reason...buy reason!!*.........who said that?

i agree with Stone Tone....i've been using reason since 1.0, and have watched it grow...a had some friends with FL, and the difference was night and day, FL just had wierd names for things and really tought the user the "wrong" things....like for delays on synths(and this is totally off the top of my head, and hence might not be accurate, i'm just tryin' to give an example) it has something like echo time, and repetes...instead of the ms. (miliseconds) and feedback.....i donno, it was just wierd and forign. i could figure out FL, but my friend was completely lost in Reason, just because of the way the logic is laid out in FL...reason is damn near the real thing, very easy and natural feeling (ha! for a synth plugin). just my humble opinion.

peace
