I have an old combo organ called the "Ace Tone Top 5". It can be viewed here if you scroll down the page:

www.combo-organ.com/AceTone/

The problem I have with it is this, one note in every octave (the same note) does not work. Does anybody know how to fix this? It would seem to me that it wouldn't be a key contact issue since it's the same not in every octave...anybody know anything about these things?

P.S. This thing rocks! Sounds so Vintage, it's also 1/4" out so I use guitar stomp boxes with it and run it through my Marshall 100W, sounds killer!

Dude, thats one cool old piece of gear. I personally know nothing about the workings of it, so I really can't help ya there, but I do wanna say that it seems to be a cool ol' bit o' kit.

Shepherdsam, I did kind of set myself up for that didn't I...CHEERZ

I actually found some links for servicing this thing and it sounds like it's a problem with the "tone generator" for that specific note, probably a capacitor or a transistor thats gone...hopefully my half assed electrical skills can fix it!

dB, it is a very cool peice of gear that I managed to score 5 years ago for $25 at a local music store that was going out of business. As far as I can tell it was made in around the 60's. There are much better ones than this but it does the trick.

Yeah, since it's the same note I figured each note must be run thru the same generator somehow, so they have one generator for each tone in an octave, then pitch it accordingly for the octave which is playing it...interesting, as I know jack about old school electronics.

Ya it's pretty much as simple as that...the tone generator creates the highest octave of a note, which also has an oscillator for tuning the note. the note gets sent through a series of frequency dividers to create the other octaves. Seems simple, we'll see!

That's a hot organ. I'm a sucker for vintage equpiment, espeically old organs. I wouldn't mind one of those... a Farfisa would be even better ;) Goodluck on fixing it!

Yes the Farfisa's are nice...the one I have is probably the lowest model of the Ace Tone family but I still love it, I don't even play piano...I just use it to fill in certain areas of songs behind my guitars, mix it in real low but audible...sounds really creepy!

af, it sounds as though it has a bad oscillator. My Juno had the same problem. It is not something you can fix redilly unless you are very familier with the workings and layout of the inside of the organ. I worked on all my own synths most of the time, but usually for the sake of sanity opted to bring it to the Good Guys a local shop who specialize in analog but also do just about anything else. Slowly I might add but very well done. And they stood behind their work. I would maybe look around and see if you can find someone local who gets into that sort of thing, maybe a good keyboard repair shop or electronics shop.

Anyway, nice buy on that as well. I played a Top-9 way back when, but it never could take that place of my B3. Very nice sounding though for sure.

AH, The Good Guys, they fixed my old Moog Taurus pedal...it took them a month, but they did it and they did it great...and I made a tons of money on that thing when I sold it, I think I doubled my investment.

God bless the Good Guys.
