What would you recommend being the best home studio software for, Recording and Editing Guitar, Drum, Bass and Vox... and also have Midi Capabilities. Also including lots of effect plugins!!

How many times is this asked? Everyone has different opinions, it's what works best for you...get demos and try them, personally, I like Sonar from Cakewalk.

There is no "best".

basically all do the same thing, they just have diferent ways of dooing it, Cakewalk has focused on ease of use, and is pretty user frendly (hence the name) every program has a learning curve, so ya gotta plan on that. in a blanket statement as far as i have read (keep in mind i have little experiance with these other programs)

cakewalk is a full featured midi sequencer that has overgrown it's pants and now handles audio
and runs on PC's only (and therefore focused on that invironment)

Cubase is cakewalks compition and pretty much does the same thing only is mac friendly too

Logic is also similar but on macs only
and therefore is more focused on mac logic

pro tools is all about audio and video
and is both mac and pc friendly, they had the market for 15+ years but all of these programs now have alot of the features that could dethrone the allmighty pro tools

nuendo is kreeping up on pro tools tail and has focused on audio/video aswell, and from what i understand is a bit more userfriendly, alota studio guys are using it now as an alternative to pro tools

i hate digital performer that program just confuses me

fruity loops will have you up and runnin' in no time, BUT the way it teaches you about audio or sequencing is really wierd, so breaking away from it can be hard.

Reason is a plug in, always has been, always will be, if ya use it as a standalone, it can be limiting because their sequencer is not up to par (then again, i'm spoiled and am used to cakewalk)

acid is great for loop-based stuff, but cakewalk handles acidized loops just fine.

i too use sonar, i do alot of sequencing for personal composition, and am now really gettin' into the audio side of things. and have made a personal decision to use Cakewalk as my first choice for software, frankly because i don't feel

peace

Hey dB

Here's a top idea that just occured me...

Why dont ye stick one of those Sticky Posts at the top of ALL boards saying -

"THE BEST RECORDING APP"...

Then just copy and paste the replies from all these threads and that will cut down on the same one coming in no??

Jsut a wee idea...may also help the newbies find the answer i.e. there is no best...blah blah.

Dunno, that may sound off but I mean it as the best plan for all...

Coco.

Great choice. I think for PC home studio software, Sonar is the
best solution, because it does it all- including Acidized wav compatibility, and it's Cyclone plugin works easier than ACID. The only program better for live use is Ableton Live.
