Idea's for planning anniversary??

Hey everyone,

looking to see if anyone has any idea's for cool stuff to do around a wedding anniversary? My wife and I are going on 5 years as of the 31st and I have some idea's, but I am trying to be really creative with a budget this year. I want to be original and have it be cool though too.

So far I have the following idea's:

-Ice Skating and cooking a home made meal for her
-Taking her out to a restaurant and a show
-Getting take out and dining in to a movie
-Making a unique slide show cd of random pictures we have taken of our life from the past 5 years in the studio and cooking dinner at home for her from scratch to chill at home.

Anyone have any other good idea's? I just can't seem to think of anything else cool/original to do. I know that the 5 year traditional theme is "wood" for gifts, but that seems pretty lame. *shrugs*

If you guys/gals have planned anniversary stuff for your wives/husbands, I would appreciate any idea's. Thanks in advance.

Charlie

make her a good home cooked meal...yeah, baby, thats the stuff.

The CD would show effort, and would BE effort, very good idea.

Restaruant and show is pretty cliche', tho I don't know your wife, she may love it.

wood anniversary...OK, I'll spare the sick, dirty jokes that are floating around my mind right now...

Congrats on five years.

lol Thanks man. yeah, I read the "wood" thing on a site I found and my mind has already been there dude. hahahah Yeah, I am not sold on the restaurant deal either caus its just not personal really ya know.

I think I might do the ice skating (caus she's never been and it is the season at the moment), come home and do the home cooked meal, and the cd deal. I wish I could figure out how to convert a VHS to PC interface without buying a tv card also caus I had a really cool idea for old home video stuff from trips and what not also. *shrugs* Maybe next year on that one though. ;)

Pinnacle make a few cheap "capture" devices to get VCR tapes into dgitial format, I have one and have used it a few times, it's very cool.

hmmm, I was just watching the Family Guy last night on Cartoon Network, and the fat guy did a scanvenger hunt with the end prize being Peter Frampton singing oooh baby I love your way (the one UB40 covered). Seemed to go over well in the cartoon.

Sorry, just the first thing that came to mind.

Didn't Big Mountain cover that too??? Anyway... :)

Riffgod, i too liked your last suggestion of the slide show. Shows so muhc more love , creativity and effort than just taking out for a meal. Depending on how much time you got, you could try what i did a year or two back... with the help of a few other online friends, i recorded a cover version of the song "She" by Elvis Costello (originally by Charles Asznavour, however he's spelling his name today). She always loved that song and thought it great that someone would write such an ode to their girl, so I decided to run the risk of being too sickly cheesy. It worked a treat and she loved it. Maybe your wife's got a special song you could do?

Found out off my mum this year that there now exists a "new and modern" set of anniversary-present-material categories to compete with the old ones like wood, paper, china etc. We hit our fourth year this year, and i think my mum told me it was "electrical appliances" - honestly!!!! Maybe you're in luck, and five years will be "Marshall stack and Gibson rig"??? :)

dB's right about those USB video capture devices... and there are many other makers out there too, cheaper than pinnacle. Check out ebay, thats where i got mine from. Only had time to dabble it as yet, but i was really surprised at how well it worked, and just over the moon at the chance to convert stuff from my VHS camcorder to the PC.

Best of luck!!!!! :)

Yeah I bought my Video capture card at best buy for like $30 but being the 23rd it may not be enough time to do the cd.

My advice is carry her on the exact same date you went on the first time. I did that and my wife fell in love with me all over again. It was like a new start. If you can remember what ya did. Do everything exactly the same and see if she remembers. Plus she'll have fun with it too. But the best part is it doesn't end the same. You won't go home lonely.

Also congrats on 5 yrs. that's awesome. Only 2 years away from the dreaded 7 year itch!!!

For me it's getting MUCH more difficult after the first 7 years...

I will have been married 9 years in April...and the last few months have been VERY trying.

Congradulations on five years. Wives are like onions; If your not carefull they can bring you to tears.

I made mine some trivits, a salt & pepper shaker holder and napkin holder out of oak to match the design of her china cabinate. She loves cooking (as a hobby) and loves her kitchen and dining room. Per my perception an anniversary is kinda like a test of "what have you learned about me so far". The sometimes tempting but quintessential "wrong" answer of "ya'll just aint wired to code" is to be avoided at all costs. Arn't I helpfull.

Well, it's funny on how hard marraige is is often times related to how young/old people got married.

Young people haven't grown yet, and sometimes in the course of growing they grow very different directions...marry to old (me and my wife's prob) you are already kinda set in ways and habits and both kinda harder to jive with...it's all in the timing, marrying after you have a direction, but are not hard on the path yet...it's weird...chicks are weird...except of course BoyzMum and Karyn. ;-)

Nice try dB!

With luck as it has been in the recent past either that lyrisist or the nun will read this and it will be onion time again!

Disclaimer:

Only females who do not read this are wierd. Those happening to read this are exempt from the the formentioned status.

lol Thanks guys... yeah, I think it is all about how fast you find your niche in life on what you want to do and go with it. I have always kind of known mine, but my wife can be un-decicive at times which confuses me a bit... Usually it involves me adapting to something which is odd caus I have a very heavy German background in my family and am stubborn as hell. lol

triprolo: would take her on the same date, but we kind of met when one of my old bands was on tour out in Seattle, WA at the time and it would be a little hard to re-create the environment without the band, and without the 1000 mile trip to Seattle. ;) Good suggestion though, I will save that one for later. hehe

DB: Congrats on the 9 years in April dude! Yeah, being married is definately work, but you have to consider the good parts about it ya know. I am finding out that communication is a "BIG" part of it also and that its not a good thing to be quiet all the time and not talk. Someone told me that its like you have a wife, best friend, lover, and advisor all in one when you get married and its a full time job by its self. *shrugs* :)

btw.... I scanned 50 some pictures last night for the slide show and have some music editing tonight to do for the rest of the disc. :) We'll see how it goes over I guess. hehe

lol how's that man? mine likes to try to help me come up with creative ways to do ordinary tasks and what not. When I say "creative", I mean things like she will tell me a rout to drive to a place in town when I have been driving a certain rout to that same place for years.... lol just little things ya know. *shrugs* lol

But woouldn't it be cool if you could reenact that day in Seattle. Man would that blow her away. :)

Lol...

Just providing a female perspective...after 16 1/2 years of marriage...:-)

Well I think you have all got it pretty well sorted. All your ideas seem to me to be pretty spot on.

Well recovered indeed Flame ;-)...dB, all chicks are wierd...not to be hard on my own gender...but it would be a boring world indeed if we were all too similar.

Congrats riffgod...and all the best for future anniversaries.

Cheers,

BM :-)

triprolo: yeah, that would be really cool. :) I definately will have to keep that idea on the back burner here for future special occasions. hehe Maybe I will plan that one for the 10th anniversary down the road. ;)

BM: Thanks for the tips and congrats. :)
