Hello,
I need to make some recordings, but the sound is very high and I need to lower it a bit so it can be good to listen. How can I do that in Cool Edit Pro 2.1?

THanks in advance.

Depending on what input you're using?
line-in/Mic-in/ use the soundcard software or windows standard mixer to lower it, (In the recording options)

That's how I do it anyway, you'll be able to use the dB meter in cool-edit to see how loud you're recording, stay out of the red-zone.

Hello. I checked your gear profile, but there was nothing listed. If you list your gear in your profile, it'll be a lot easier to answer future questions.

Murphy is correct in that you can lower the volume being recorded in your windows mixer. Or if you have a hardware mixer, you can lower it there. However, if you are recording multiple tracks, it is best to get your tracks as loud as possible without clipping (the red-zone Murphy mentioned). When you go to mix down your tracks, you get the levels correct by using the Cool Edit interface on the side of each track. The reason for this is to keep your noise floor low. The louder you record your tracks, the less noise can leak in. When you lower the tracks for mixdown, you lower the noise also.
As I said, if you post your gear profile, it is a lot easier to give more specific answers.

I'm sorry that I was not very specific.
I'm recording for a notebook that has not any line in socket, but only a microphone connection and that's the one I use.
I'm recording some sound from a beheringer table and I connect the notebook directly to the tape out socket and that way I cannot lower the sound input in the table, I have to do it in the notebook. I already lower the recording sound on the windows mixer to the maximium, but it's still very high because the recording goes to the red zone. So that's why I asked if in cool edit it was possible to lower the input sound.

you need to open the windows microfone settings and lower the input from there mate. Cant remember the exact button, but I think it is located in the same windows as the volume settings for windows. Rock on!

But on the windows mixer I already did it, but it's still too loud. Is it possible to lower in cool edit or he just works with the windows definition?

If you are recording with devices such as beat machines, keyboards and such...try turning the device volumes down...if you cant hear it...jack the main output volume up...cool edit does not have anything in the program that will adjust your imput volumes...yes...it work on the windows definition.

I have worked with Cool Edit/Adobe Audition since 2002, I have never seen such option...All my early recordings were too loud but it was never the program...it was the input level of my sound card device...never really the program...

Cool Edit goes off of what the soundcard mixer says is coming into the system...

Make sure you're lowering the 'Record' mic-in, and not the 'playback' mic-in.
