What's the Price of Gas?

I hate to have to phrase it this way, but gas has come way DOWN to $1.89 cents per gallon here in western Wisconsin. A month ago it was way up to $2.09 cents per gallon. That's as high as it has ever been around here.

Being that we have an international forum here, I'm just curious as to what others are paying per gallon for the privelige to drive your car. (Beep beep mmm beep beep, yeah!)

there was a brief vignette regarding this on NPR...the lady talked about how one year ago, the median price was around $1.50 per gallon, and that all the prices we see now would be insane to us back then. yeah, it's a scam.

Average here in Phoenix, AZ
Is about $1.93 per gallon.

A year and a half ago...
It was about $1.39.

Then something happened with our main pipeline,
It went up to as much as $3-4 per gallon
(If the stations even had any left)
And it never got back down to where it was
Before the pipeline broke.

Bah, I don't know what it's going for at this moment, but I suspect that $2.23 or so is probably the absolute cheapest you can find in the bay area. A couple months ago you couldn't get cheaper than $2.45. These are not average, but rock bottom probably put water in the gas prices that you don't find so often. The bay area consistently gets screwed with gas prices.

I filled up today for $1.79 in central PA. That's the lowest it's been for a LONG time.

1 gallon = 3.785 liters.
1 dollar = 0.77 Euro's
1 liter = 1.24 Euro's
3.785 Liter = 1 gallon = 4.6934 Euro's
4.6934 Euro's = 6,44 dollar

so here in Holland we Pay $6,44 a Gallon

All true...
Scary isn't it...

Michigan is bouncing like a red rubber ball.

$1.61 last night, could be $1.89 this morning. This summer peak vacation time it toped out at just over 2. Driving the auto industry nuts. The fight for the biggest, bestest, morest SUV tard bus continues to rage as everybody wants one (it would seem) but can't figgure out how to fill the things. You know 0 down and 0 interest followed by six years of indentured servitude to the oil companies. Too much fun!

Personally I tie it all to the rise of B P. When they started re-signing all the Amaco stations with the B P logo the price went through the roof.

enh, I wouldn't say oil prices are bushes fault per se, but he's definitely benefitting, as is anyone who has oil investments. but let's not forget much of the price is market (low supply/high demand) driven. Of course the oil oligarchy helps to purposesly keep supply down to increase their pay checks. So I guess I would blame it more on Bush's buddies than bush (don't get me wrong, I still despise the guy).

more importantly, or just as importantly, how about the public more supporting the use of internal resources and other power sources so as not to rely on oil, especially from over seas as much...use more efficient cars, hybreds, natural gas when possible, hell, even lower the heat in the winter just a little bit...more efficient furnaces and water heaters...the public can play a role too.

totally agree with you, but isnt technology in this area kind of restricted by big oil bullies?

Thats what your typical conspiracy theorist would say...but seriously, hybreds ARE available, and in the US you get tax breaks for buying them as well. They are PROMOTED. Look in your utility room if you own a house...do you have an efficient furnace and heater heater? Some power companies give bonus' to customers that buy them...do you have a fireplace? Do you use it? There are lots of things that ARE available...and some very encouraged by industry and gov't.

yeah i looked at toyota's hybrid back in 2002 when i got my camry. I can only afford to buy used cars so it was out of the question for me at that time. besides they didnt have many of them and hybrids were/are in high demand in my area. so basically you pay sticker price. i will definately look at them when shopping for my next car, i should be able to pick up a used one by then.

i still believe in the conspiracy theory though, Big corps could care less about this planet, their main concearn is $$$$$$. thats the way it is man.

you really can't say that about ALL corps. That's kind of unfair. But as a rule, yes, I kind of agree. The hybreds we looked at last time we purchased were too new, I never buy version 1 of ANYTHING...the recent hybreds are much better, next time we buy (within a couple years I am sure) we'll be getting one.

ok i agree maybe not all corps, but most.

well at least i can say the motor companies are stepping up with the hybrids, I think it was a big step and hybrids are only going to get better and better and i totally agree with you this is the direction we need to take and people need to step up and follow in the same direction.

if i get a hybrid it will definately be the honda. I think honda makes the best cars period.

it went down to a 1.69 here which is alright for me, it was up to about 1.89 not too long ago, which still isn't as bad as some of you guys are saying.

Well, then we come to another issue xtc, while I will look at the honda hybreds as well, we are then kinda rading a fence, less dependence on oil, but greater dependence on foreign autos...when it comes to my bigger purchases, I try to get as much that is made in the good ol' US as I can, though it's impossible to get anything completely made in the US, hell, Harley's aren't even any more...

Buying "American" has become a HUGE issue for me.

In some industries it isn't too bad but in the instance of motor vehicles it is a major concern. dB mentioned motorcycles. I have a Honda street bike. I purchased it for many reasons: reliability, engineering, drivability, and monies to the US. Last breakdown I read indicated that on my Honda $0.73 per dollar stayed in the us. On the competitive Harley $0.68 stayed in the US. Relitive to automibiles, there is one reason US manufacturers can't keep up; PROCESS . After WW2 we sent a team of experts that got the Asians and Europeans moving toward lean manufacturing processes. They have since made profound advances on the rudimentary postulate. Here in the US we have ignored most all process development. Dollor for dollar we make junk in comparison to our overseas competitors. As long as we buy junk there is no imputis for US manufacturers to change anything. This is just enabling poor habits. The only jobs available here in Michigan are from overseas manufacturers setting up shop here. Again, process. Our manufacturers are still looking for the softer easier way out and sending jobs to third world countries. This will no doubt bite us in the south end as it does not address the problem. The other issue is in terms of wages. Our automobile industry pays huge wages to some and peanuts to others. Far too great a seperation of income. And the top wages keep going up as the jobs are farmed out. I have a very difficult time supporting these practices. We are headed toward creating another 3rd world country where the bulk of the inhabitants can not afford the products created. When you win at Monopoly you put the game back in it's box, game over. There is victory to celibrate as there is no game to play.

Man oh man!! I live in Santa Barbara Ca. The gas prices have gone down here to $2.38 for premium, and 2.12 for regular. I know it's not Holland or NZ, but for the states, this is rediculous.

Buying Honda is more or less buying Ohio... as there are two large honda plants here with one expanding in 2006 with the new CRV/SUV/whatever

I did get the opertunity to share a ride from Budipest to Kahsakstan and back with with you folks once. Hard working bunch. Took their chances too. What a ride. Got shut down in Russia on the way in due to ice storms. They called it "going in". I have a lot of respect for the guys and gals "on the ground".
