I just got meself an E-MU 0404 about a month ago, and it has done very well for me. My computer has far less power than yours, but I have had no problems.

What software will you be using it with?

I think ill use just the cubasis and wave lab included i heard its fairly easy to use. What do you use? But Will i need a pre amp? Cuz all my acoustics already have pickups so i wont need a pre amp will i?, cant i just run my electrics and acoustics straight in there(of course with the right converters).

I use Cool Edit Pro, but only because I already had it. I have tinkered with the apps that come with the 0404, and they seem to be able to do anything that I would need.

Yes, I'm thinking that you could plug your acoustic right into the E-MU, assuming that they have onboard preamps along with the pickups. I don't think that your electric guitar can be plugged directly...do you have and sort of foot pedal efects unit to run it through? If not, you'll need some sort of preamplificaton.

the 0404 really intruiges me from what I read, I'll be curious to hear your take on it after using it for a while.

I have the E-Mu 0404 and it seems to work great. I had to dismantle my studio to move to my new house, so I didn't have long to play with it.
Make sure you order via the HRC link to Musician's Friend. Get dB-Wan some deserved commission!

There are some issues that I am having already with the 0404. The "PatchMix" software is very confusing, and often when I open the app my computer spontaneously restarts. A minor irritation. I have not really tried to figure out how to record on two tracks at the same time, but I'm not exactly sure how to go about doing it. The documentation is sketchy at best.

As far as sound quality and latency and other recording-related issues, I have no complaints at this time.

Yeah i have a a couple of effects.... so if i ran my electric through one of them that would work for a sort of preamplification

If you do, then you have to make sure that Cubasis is sending the output to your onboard sound card, and not your E-MU. (I'm not sure how you do that...)

If it's a direct box/amp sim sort of thing, no them probably not, however, if it's the old school type stomp boxes, no, they are not preamps...it will have the effect, but still sound kinda crappy.

Put a microphone in front of your amp, run the mic in to a small mixer or standalone preamp and run that into your sound card.

Or, get a unit like a POD or Vamp and run thru it straight in to your sound card. Nothing beats a POD.
