Dec 09, 2004 12:45 pm for $300 you can get on OK pair of passive speakers, but not powered...
Dec 09, 2004 12:47 pm ok if i did get nice passive monitors, then what power amps do you recommend, are there any low powered decent ones? for a reasonable price?
Dec 09, 2004 12:48 pm Alesis makes decent reference amps, check the Studio Equipment section. Between speakers and amp though, you'll still go over $300.
Dec 09, 2004 12:53 pm i currently monitor with a home stereo
would it be better to buy nice monitors and plug the monitors into this receiver/amp and use the auxilary channel? or do home stereo receiver/amps exaggerate the sound? like the speakers?
Dec 09, 2004 12:56 pm It'll help to have decent monitors, I mix my surround sound stuff over home receiver as I am just toying with it now, but it's not the optimial situation.
Dec 09, 2004 01:00 pm thanks for the info, its much appreciated.

Dec 09, 2004 02:12 pm By far am I no where near the sharpest tool in the shed like Mr. Masters, for he has helped me considerably, but I was looking at Musician's Friend and I found some moniters in the $300 field. I'll throw a link up so you can show me I'm probably wrong about this.

Dec 09, 2004 02:14 pm I never said they weren't available, I said they aren't the best monitors...powered monitors, unless on massive clearance, for $300 well, there is just no way they can be really good monitors just from the rpice of the parts needed...
I prefer not linking to MF search pages, there is no way I can make those affiliate links so HRC can get some commission of any possible sales :-(
nor do I claim to be a very sharp tool...

Dec 09, 2004 04:05 pm Event V.20/20 Passive Moniters are the best for the 300 price range. I have a pair and the reviews are slamming!

Dec 09, 2004 05:56 pm <Begin Plug *M-Audio monitor plug dude entering the building! Hey M-Audio! I want a dollar everytime I mention your products!* End Plug>
Go for the BX8's. I know it's like $200 more but you need the bigger cone to give more low end. Just my thoughts.
Dec 09, 2004 06:00 pm For $300 they can be decent, but you can only expect so much. I have heard good things about them though for their price.
Dec 09, 2004 06:56 pm The more I look around, I take back my comment, with passive monitors, you can get a decent set for $300...I forget that mine were only $350 about 4-5 years ago and they rock, so I recant my dis...and apologize.

Dec 10, 2004 01:20 pm DB - Were you talking about the Event 20/20? I read nothing but good things about those monitors. I'm curious about your input...I think we had a discussion about these monitors before on the site...

Dec 10, 2004 02:04 pm I saw a pair of Yamaha 60W powered monitors yesterday for $330 Canadian...can't remember the model # but they seemed nice, I know nothing about Yamaha monitors though...other than the NS10's. CHEERZ
