Condensor Mics and the Tacam 4MKII.........suggestions please.

Hey everyone. I'm looking into some condensor mics to go with my Tascam 4MKII, and I was wondering if anyobdy knew of any low-priced condensor mics I could buy that DON'T REQUIRE PHANTOM POWER. I was really interested in one of the MXL condensors, which got great reviews and was only 60 bucks. Problem is, the cash is so tight, I don't have the money to spring for the extra 20 bucks to buy a phantom power box if I bought the MXL. Does anyone know of any cheap condensor mics that AREN'T phantom powered?

Thanks
Ben

But I don't know much so...

I think that there are some battery-powered ones, but I'd really think that itd be worth waiting until you can afford a way to get phantom power to a condensor mic.

I mean, how long would it take to come up with $20? Especially when considering a purchase that you'll have for a long time.

Go digging for change between the couch cushions and you'll be 1/4 of the way there in no time!

I think that if you go too cheap on a condensor, then you'd be better served just getting a solid dynamic mic like an SM57 or something.

There are some that are battery-powered, but probably cost more than the MXL that you're refering to . If you fill-out your profile Ben, perhaps some of us could use that info to offer some alternative methods, or gear .

You can also buy little stand alone phantom power supplies. I have one made by Peavey and one by Rolls. Simple little box with XLR in and out.
