MR-8, Background noise Problem, Low volume exported wav problem

Help!

In using my new MR-8 for recording my daughter's vocals mixed with various sources (Vocal stripped wav files, live keyboard, guitar, etc.) I have the following problems.

1) Loud background hiss whenever turning the input source trim up to a usable level. I'm using Shure 58 mics for vocals, various sources for second channel background. Tried various cables, positioning, switching between A.B inputs, making sure cable totally separated, assuring source signal is quiet at M^-8 input, etc., etc., ad nauseum, no change, always the hiss.

2) When I have a properly mixed down and converted wav file, and USB export it to my PC, I end up with a wav file volume on the PC that is a TINY fraction (maybe 10% or so at best), of the original volume level that I heard on the MR-8 final wav file playback.

Naturally, if I amplify this exported file using studio software programs, I increase the intolerable background hiss levels even more.

Is there anything I can do short of sending this thing back? I have seen more and more people with this kind of complaint on the MR-8 that they can't resolve no matter how thoroughly they troubleshoot.

I wonder if Fostex changed their design and/or a component, and introduced a bad component noise problem or a grounding problem in the latest generation of production? I've had mine about 2 months.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike
