Marketing the "Save the Music" Project

Posted on

I am assuming everybody will market within their own communities. I plan on emailing a couple local TV stations, maybe radio stations. Maybe talk to some local kids about telling their friends at school, maybe my church...maybe try to contact Save the Music for ideas...

CD Print Express will be doing the reproduction, then we need to figure out how to distribute, I am hoping everybody will "take orders" and I can ship a mass quantity out to each person involved.

As for the labelling I was just thinking of using the Save the Music logo (after asking for permission) and having little else except song lists...

Thoughts?

Sounds good. I can do marketing here. Just publish some rough time line when you get that into perspective.

I would like to have a product in hand by Christmas.

Most songs I think would be done already (or close) as we have a lot of great music already...so I don't foresee it taking a long time.

My thoughts are that this is really shaping up to be a great project! I'll do some PR work around here in cheese-land.

Way to get the balll rollin'! I started working on a song yesterday that just might turn ot to be my contribution.

This is great...

I'll market it in my area as best I can.

The only thing I'm thinking though is it will be a pretty tuff sell to all but close friends with no product in hand.

Yeah, I just now thought I will make a little subsight for the album, much like my little music site. music.dbmasters.net where I have my tunes. I can whip one up like that so people can preview the mp3's.

if I don't get final submission by the end of this month, as stated in the other thread, I am putting it on a back burner. I wanted it done by Christmass, if it's not oging to be, then I have a billion other things to do.

oh, I just realized, to you it's 1/12/04, to us normal people (American:-) it's 12/1/04 :-)

We also don't have the issues of distribution, cost and quantity sorted either...

The more I think about this ist may have to be pushed back until later, this could be a pretty sizable project if we want to do it right...unless we come up with a great distribution scheme and stuff quickly...

Ah..now, I just thought you were being a big old grinch saying "end of the month..." when I said 1st Dec!! :-D !!

Still , now thats cleared up, I thinks we can nail it dB. If everyone gets theirselves in order, you will have a pile of songs arriving on ya soon.

But, as for distribution, you may have a good point there. I dunno - depends on how long you plan on selling for - forever I say. Distribution, can be built up no? Sell via word of mouth, web, etc just now then go for more options as time goes - OR - sort it upfront (probably what we SHOULD do I guess).

Nae worries...

Well, for starters, no, limited time only, I won't be able to do it forever, just a fund raiser...or "limited edition" if you prefer.

If we sell via the web, where? If we sell it for $10 USD (the price I have in my head) and I have to send it accross the pond it'll cost a fortune. Therefore, if you can email me and say you sold 10, I could mail you 10 at once. See what mean?

Aye...I see what you mean.

I think yer right - we need to work this all out in advance, get a run made then ship in bulk as yi say.

I know it would cost me about £6.00 ($12USD) to ship a CD to the US on the 1 week basis using the Royal Mail here.

So, I dunno what the USPS charges ye - makes sense to do it in bulk as yi say tho.

As for the web..I am thinking we make a mini site like you said with a short couple of paragraphs about the project, pic of the sleeve and track listing etc. We can also sell on our own sites linking to the mini site, submit it to anywhere that'll carry it and offer it via download (probs just the whole lot) via the mini-site. Do you think this would work??

Dunno - all just ideas. Think we do need to move tho as yi say.

Another idea might be for individuals to ask for a certain number and pay in advance...then sell etc as they see fit...that way the process is being shared around a little.

For eg I would buy about 50 at USD $10 and sell them in my own time...it might not be the way for everyone...but I'd be happy with that...I feel I could sell 50 units. Or whatever the number before for cost of production and shipping etc goes up.

I would be selling to friends and family mainly...since I don't think there'd be a terrific market here for supporting an American Schools project. Education is always a smouldering melting pot threatening to erupt at any time.

But I believe in this project...and I know plenty of others who would support this purely on that basis too.

Cheers,

BM

Hmmm...don't really have too many ideas on the marketing just yet myself save for agreeing with some of what's been suggested already. I may be able to free up a little bit of web space if that's needed though. Not sure, i'll have to see.

Well guys. I haven't been around here much these days as I no longer have a job and do not have internet at home. Before I used to sit at work and surf HRC but now I sit at home and surf my guitar. So I missed this whole "Save the Music" thing, but you can rely on me to help you with marketing over here in Europe. Great stuff guys!
