Free maximizer plugins?

At the recommendation of members of this board I downloaded the Waves Ultramaximizer plugin demo and it did wonders for my songs; it really is an amazing product. Only one problem...I can't afford it right now, or anytime soon for that matter. My demo version is almost up and it will be hard to live without it. So my question, are there any FREE or shareware plugins similar to the UM or a couple of programs used in conjunction?? I am using Cool Edit Pro 2.0.
