Woo Hoo!! I successfully uploaded a song! (Beatles Cover!)

My first complete PC project. This was tracked, edited, and mixed on the computer. Also, with Coco's guidance, I got the sound card talkin' to the Zoom, so drums and bass are from my RT-123.

It's called "I've Just Seen a Face", and it's a cover version of the old Beatles tune. If you are so inclined, give it a listen and see what you think. (It's in my HRC music profile).

Also, the issues seem to have been resolved, because this uploaded without any glitches. Way to go dB!

Arrgh!! I had to mix it through the headphones so as not to disturb the family. I just listened to it for the first time through my monitors...I need to go back and fine tune some things!

Since I listen almost exclusvely on headphones, it sounds great to me Jim, really nice cover. Very nice. I listened on my speakers and actually sounds pretty dang good on them too. :)

The main difference is the drums are kinda lost on the speakers can't really hear them, other than that sounds great.

Thanks Dog! I need to work on drums...it seems to be a recurring comment regarding the songs I post.

This is the first time that I really used Cool Edit Pro to manipulate audio. For example, I only the sang the chorus one time, and then copied and pasted it. Same with the harmonies. Never done that before. Had fun EQ-ing each track and getting everything maximized.

This is fun!

Dito Olddog's comments...this is good. Real good - and for a real first attempt using a PC, really dang good!

Drums sound fine here by the way, tho you might have fixed them as you said before now.

Guitars sound good, that tele goes well for the Beatles - obviously no a Riccky but good nonetheless. And, fits the song. Bass is coming thru - I cant find too many things wrong with this mix at all.

Good vocals. Seems different from all your other stuff in a good way.

Good effort.

Coco.

Hey jim,

Well a very good first recording project, have to say! I'm not familiar with the original at all, but it sounds like a real fun song to do.

You got some good sonic landscape in that mix, too. One thing i think could be enhanced slightly is moving the harmonies somewhat... panning them a bit wider, at the moment i find they're hidden a bit by the lead vocal, in fact i'm picturing you singing lead, and then you singing one foot behind your own persona, if that makes sense? I like the EQ treatment of the lead vox...it's got a nice twang, and sounds clean, uplifting, and suits this genre... i think the harmonies could do with a little similar tweaking in the upper mid ranges... at the moment they sound a little bit muffled, like it's someone singing along with the song, rather than singing IN it.

Wish my first PC project had sounded half as good as this!!!!

Wow! Very perceptive of you. Thanks for the very specific bit of advice. I'll take it back to the session and see what happens when I tinker a bit.

Thanks for the kind (and helpful) words of encouragement!

Take my comments with as much salt as you deem fit though! I may sound like i know what i'm talking about, but the truth can be stranger than fiction ;) Things like the harmonies placement in the mix really are just the finishing touches though in the big scheme of things, so they are common to the "tinkering" phase :)

It's just that I never really thought about that before, so I'm pleased to learn about new options and possibilities!

Thanks again!

hey guitar_jim, that was a very pleasant listen for me. I like your rendition, and may I say the sound of the guitars are just excellent the way they blend together. You know, your voice reminds me just a little of the guy from "They Might Be Giants", although you have a very different style.
