OmniStudio USB and Audition 1.5

Have been using a Behringer B-1 condensor mic run through a Behringer Tube Untragain into a SB Live card. No problems with this configuration.

Today I bought on OmniStudio USB. Installed driver and tried to record to Audition 1.5 after changing preferences in Audition. Nothing.

Reinstalled driver and tried again with same results.

Plugged back into SB Live card and mic was hotter than my wife was before we got married. Uninstalled and reinstalled M-Audio driver and tried again to record to Audition. Made sure OmniStudio was listed as number one for recording. Still nothing.

Am I just not holding my jaw right or is there something obvious I've overlooked?

I honestly don't know what if anything I did had anything to do with it or if it just decided to start working on its own, but now I can record.

My problem: if I try to record in the stereo mode, it only records to either the left or right side, depending upon which mic jack is plugged in.

My question: how do I record in the stereo mode?

Ok, didn't find exactly what I was looking for, but did find a work-around. Doesn't look like anyone's really interested, but if you want the work-around, contact me.

To record a mono source in stereo is kind of pointless. Record any mono saource in mono, left or right, really doesn't matter, than, when recorded, pan it to the location in the stereo field you want it to reside in.

Whatever your fix was, glad you found it, I am surprised nobody else got to you on this...

lawman, sending a signal in through only one input on the OmniStudio is only going to be a mono signal. You can however pan it to the center once it is recorded so you will have vocal or audio in both the left and right speaker during playback.

In order to record in stereo you will need to feed both the left and right input of the OmniStudio and that will give you 2 channels of audio which you can then consider stereo.

Hey thanks guys. I had to look up panning in the Audition Help menu to find out what it was. That's more efficient than my work-around. I knew there had to be an easier way.

Betchya couldn't tell I don't know what I'm doing.

lawman, thats why we are here. Try to help out as best we can. There is usually someone here who will be able to answer the question one way or another.

Glad ya found it in the manual. And dont worry about not knowing the stuff right off. Most of us didnt learn it overnight either. I have been doing this for a very long time and I still learn new stuff every day.

Hey, lawman,
Did you ever figure out what you did to make OmniStudio USB work in the first place? I've tried to record with CoolEdit and SoundForge Studio, and STILL nothing. If you have any ideas regarding how you held your jaw, I'd appreciate knowing. Thanks!

First up, this site is too good. Been here an hour and I'm just soaking up all this information. Awesome site.

I dont see any reply on Brian's query. Was hoping to get the Omnistudio USB working. Cant. Help!

System Specs:

Windows XP home
2.4GHZ Celeron CPU
1024 MB RAM

Recording Software: Cakewalk ProAudio 9.

Everythings hooked up right as far as I can tell. But the computer doesnt recieve any signal. Nothing. Deafening silence. The first try, chose the source, armed the track aaaand, nothing. Second time around, the software doesnt even detect the card. I'm at my wits end. Have to get this working. Had to move heaven and earth to get it. I live in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Anyone ever heard of the place? Need I say more?

Of course, I should also mention that I'm an absolute beginner so chances are I'm doing something wrong so any help would be much appreciated.

Do you have the manual or quickstart guide? Here's links to them:

www.m-audio.com/images/gl...oUSB_Manual.pdf

www.m-audio.com/images/gl..._Quickstart.pdf

That's all I can find on the m-audio web site, which is not unusual for a manufacturer, since the gear is going on 3 years old (what happened to the days when they'd keep drivers, etc. around for the life of the company?).

If no one here is able to help, perhaps an email to m-audio tech support might find a solution?
